How's it going with Christmas preparations? I know many of you have Thanksgiving to think of first.

I'm not quite in the mood this year but have started to gather baking ingredients. So far the plan is to start baking the 25th so everything is ready for December 1st.
I am just thinking of my Thanksgiving menu. Going to be a traditional one this year. Thanksgiving holiday for me had always been special and this is a tough year for me. I am going to make it extra extra! My niece and her family are coming as well as our friends. As such, Thanksgiving will be my Christmas extravaganza. Hopefully you can share some amazing dessert ideas please.

What are you thinking for the holidays?

As far as Christmas, we will be out of town for the majority of the month and will be visiting villages.

I feel you...I thought 2020 was bad, but 2024 takes the cake.

Sure, what are you interested in? I will probably do 10 to 12 kinds of cookies, a small batch of stollen and one or two candies.

Our Christmas meal on the 25th with extended family has been the same since my childhood: first Sunday soup (beef stock, marrow dumplings, egg custard, star shaped pasta). Main is turkey, potato dumplings and red cabbage. Dessert I have a plan B in case I don't feel like going fancy: a particularly nice brownie recipe I tried recently (it was a viral Reddit recipe) with vanilla icecream and caramel sauce. Then we do a cold spread in the evening with salad, bread, charcuterie and cheese.

The 24th, I have not decided yet (I do think the others want steak, but I'm not a big meat eater so will have to find nice sides), but it's the first time in years one of my siblings can make it so dessert is their favourite, mousse au chocolat.

26th we used to go out, then get take-out, and now we just eat leftovers or I make pizza

2024 was a devastating year for me and I am trying to find anything I can, within me, to get into the holidays and your post has helped. Thank you. Now I’m getting excited!

Please if you could share the brownie recipe as we love brownies. My daughter and DH Love cookies and we maintain the tradition of “cookies for Santa” and they usually do not make it to Christmas Day. We love all dessert. I will post my thanksgiving table (hopefully it’s pretty and not a mess) this year. I think this year we are 11 (used to cook for 18). For brownies I am still making Emergency Brownies by buttermilkbysam.com. They are always perfect

For Christmas as mains - I usually do turkey and a pork crown roast (I do not eat pork but seems I cook it well). You could do an easy beef Wellington and depending on how many guests, one loin should suffice. I love sides dishes and need to start prioritizing a list this weekend.

I'm so very sorry but happy if my post helped a little. Not gonna lie, I am struggling to get in the mood and I'm usually ready to go come September (when we were still using the pool haha) and loving every single minute.

I did buy a few ingredients, but it's hard to shop when you don't know what you'll be making.

I followed the video because I like the Cupcake Jemma crew and find them entertaining, but they have a link to the original recipe over on Reddit in the info box. He did not adjust the salt and kept it at 1 tsp when the recipe creator actually used kosher salt which I only found out after I added it. I panicked for a minute but it was fine in the end. Still, next time around I will use 1/2 tsp.

Our table has shrank quite a bit too and it makes me sad to think about it.

Oh, beef Wellington is a stellar idea. Last time we made it I just made myself a mushroom puff pastry thing without the beef. Will run this by the meat eaters to see what they think!

This is wonderful thank you. May do a run test of the brownies tonight - just for quality control. 😂
