The Different Mulberry Leathers: A Guide

It depends on the colour of the leather. My bags don't show white underneath, but a different colour lear may do. If you keep the leather well conditioned it really shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't recommend trying to stick scales down if they had lifted. :smile1:
It's the del rey in gold metallic snake print I am after and have been considering whether to get or not over the last couple of days, it's such a beautiful bag but scared that after a few months it will look a mess. Or does lifting of the scales on this one still makes it look ok? I don't intend to use her on a daily basis as I have a del rey in oak for that, but would like to take her out a couple of days a week! I moisturise my oak one once a week as even that once tends to go quite dry so I am prepared to do the same with the snake one. I really don't know whether or not to take the plunge, please help.

Just wondering what mulberry will say if the scales lift up and it looks bad - and whether it makes a difference if original purchase was from an outlet or not?
I queried this with the Cheshire Oaks outlet as I was interested in buying a del rey in metallic gold snake print, and I was told that lifting of the scales is inevitable and their care card does warn you of this, so she said it would not be seen as a fault, therefore not under warranty.

Mine still looks pristine (bought when current season). It does have a couple of "ruffled" scales, but I just gel them after each use.... No white showing.

That looks ok, moo. I had one that was black scales, very large, and with white underneath - so if they started lifting, it wd be very noticeable.
Yes, the colour of the leather makes a big difference. The bronze metallic doesn't show white, rather black as you can see from the close up, this just blends in with the overall appearance, so not really an issue on this particular bag.

Thanks for that moo, you have made my mind up for me, I am going to go for it and order it tomorrow, I can't wait!

Hi sorry I'm a newbie here and would post my own thread but as have only just signed on cant do it, can someone please advise on how durable and how to treat soft calf print fur, have just bought an alexa in it and I think mulberry did the Taylor in the same leather.. It's just a fur print on the leather as opposed to actual fur, but I am just wondering how hard wearing it is and what it is like if being used everyday? Thanks in advance

Ps have also posted this topic in a couple of other threads sorry - not sure which is most relevant

Hi

For those of you that own a silky snake bag I was just wondering how you find it wears?

I am eyeing up a cream coloured one on an Alexa but am concerned about the scales lifting ?

I first saw it in a shop a couple of years ago and was drawn to it immediately in the navy colour but then the SA put me off as he said over time the scales will all eventually lift and stick up !

Just wondered if this is true? And also how you go about protecting it too is it different to smooth leather ?

TIA

Dear all, I already owned a grainy calf Mulberry Bayswater and now have added a silky snake print. I read about the risk of lifting scales, but the bag was so beautiful I couldn't resist. With the bag on display I could see what would happen and that there is white underneath the rose colour. I will treat my bag well, nourish and waterproof the leather whenever necessary and I hope it will age in good shape. If the worst comes to the worst, I will have to do some restoration work ;). You see, I'm optimistic! What I wanted to share here, is the information that the silky snake print is about 200g lighter than the grainy calf bag. For me that's a big advantage as I find my mole grey bag a bit heavy. Love it nevertheless! Conclusion: grainy calf is thick and sturdy but a bit heavy, silky snake is thinner and lighter but more delicate. And here's a pic for comparison:

I have had a good look through this thread but I couldn't find any info I was hoping someone could advise me please, what is the difference between shrunken calf and silky classic calf and are they hard wearing leathers?

Many thanks :)

Can anyone advise on the different leathers the oak alexa has come in. I have the printed oak and valentines ones but really want the 'original' oak one. I ordered one in the NAP sale which arrived today, it is soft buffalo but I was really disappointed, it looked cheap, plasticky and almost fake so I put it back in the box to be returned. Is it likely that I just got a bad quality one?
