TPF is usually the place where good news are shared. But since the other side is also part of life, I'll show you why the last two years weren't my years at all (regardless of the circumstances we've all had to deal with during that time).
My bad luck started 2 years ago in the summer with the loss of one of my Piaget earrings when I unloaded the car, the misfortune continued with the loss of a 2.50ct solitaire diamond from one of my rings and last but not least when I destroyed my Piaget possession white gold ring (don't ask how that happened - by applauding so enthusiastically at the opera that two diamond rings collided so hard that one destroyed the other!!!??).
Well, this year either starts with a proper repair bill or I don't put any more money into the old things but take that as a sign to finally buy something new again. What would you do?

All I can say is that, that performance must have been literally out of this World - and very expensive.

I lost 2 butterflies from different pairs of earrings recently. One Annoushka and the other Hermes. I consider myself lucky though, because, in neither case did I lose the earrings. I also lost some of the enamel from a very expensive Roberto Coin ring, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't even consider a repair, they don't have a stand alone store in the UK either. It was my mother's and I am sad I was obviously so careless.

I would advise you to repair, reimagine, or re-purpose what you have.

You could wear your earring as a single and just a wg or diamond stud in the other ear.

Replace the diamond in your shank (which is lovely) with a less expensive but amazing coloured stone.

I think the diamond ring should be repaired as was.

I've got to ask: are these pieces insured? That would certainly dictate what I personally would do with them. That and the sentimental value to me (and to you) would make my decisions.

PS: I'd definitely recommend avoiding tension set and channel set rings, as well as butterfly closure type earrings. They don't seem to work for you based on your story and the photos.

No, the items are not insured. I don't know how it is with insurance in the US, but in Europe the rates are really, really high. You have to pay around 5% of the value per year so you either choose a few pieces to insure (and then lose the others - lol) or you insure the whole collection - then it's cheaper you lose a piece every now and then.

@papertiger - Yes, I think very similarly, but let‘s wait for the offers first!

I’m sorry to hear about your jewellery mishaps. Losing/damaging jewellery sucks. Whenever it happens to me, I’m mopey for days.

If you are down, maybe simply wear this as a single earring and partner it with a diamond stud since it is quite cool to rock asymmetrical earrings nowadays. Think 80’s revival. I lost one diamond drop earrings too a while back and I’ve been wearing it this way. I’m not young btw but I never look “put together” so I can get away with it. Haha

As for the rings, replace the honker with a beautiful coloured stone. Your other ring should be repairable by a competent jeweller.

As for my jewel-related grief, it’s just flat out losing them. I have skinny fingers and have lost a couple of rings when it’s cold outside. Or an earring that just gone awol at the end of the night. Didn’t even feel them slip off... just gone poof and off to their new adventures.

I’m so sorry to hear about what happened to your pieces  I too haven’t had much luck over the last year: a few months ago I lost one half of a pair of David Yurman gold earrings while removing my mask in a coffee shop (luckily not too expensive but I really loved them) and then, more devastatingly, my Tiffany Metro diamond bangle in white gold must have popped off while I was walking along the street one day :crybaby: In the past I have lost diamond studs and a three stone diamond ring.

Re what to do with your pieces - personally I would leave the earring as is, replace the stone in the ring with a fabulous gemstone of exceptional colour and cut and contact Piaget to get a quote for repairing the Possession ring. You could get a normal jeweller to do it at a reduced cost, but it wouldn’t be the same and (I don’t know if this would bother you) the value would be affected if it was repaired by anyone other than Piaget.

Im so sorry for your bad luck. your collection is amazing. pieces generally have sentimental value attached to them so loosing them can be really heart breaking.
i dont have anything to suggest xx

@Onebagtoomany I feel sorry for you too, but on the other hand, it's good to hear that I'm not alone with something like this happening to me. So it looks like we have to calculate with some shrinkage in our collection (but this is also an excellent argument to motivate our husbands to be a bit more generous!).

I am sorry to hear You lost an earring and stones from your rings. I have lost smaller diamonds from 3 rings; repaired 2 that were sentimental value. Insurance was not helpful - the cost to replace the stone would also be the increase in premium for making a claim! I paid for the repair. Losing an earring is annoying. I have lost a few recently - likely taking masks on and off! What backings are the most secure?
