I talked about getting a tennis bracelet as one of my wish list things this year.
So, I've got the opportunity to purchase one for $650. The appraisal apparently says the bracelet is $4K

However, the specs of the diamond bracelet is as follows in the picture below:

I just don't know if it's worth the price. I see bracelets on ebay go anywhere from $800 +

Should I spend or save?

TIA!

Have you seen this bracelet in person? If you have it and you like it, then I would buy it.

Personally I would not buy this bracelet if I have not seen it in real life. The cut could be low quality. Anyone can represent anything in an appraisal.

Do you like the bracelet style? Or are you just interested because of the price? Also have you seen it in person? I would not take the appraised value in consideration because it is typically very inflated. So basically, if you love the style and the price is right, then go for it. If you don't love it, save the money for a different bracelet.

Thanks for the reply!
I appreciate you helping me deliberate on my decision
No, I haven't seen the bracelet in person.
I'm quite fine with the style. I realize the appraisal is quite inflated, so I'm never really sure what to gauge jewelry prices on.

I guess I'm just still really bummed at my stolen tennis bracelet that I'm lusting after one in an affordable price range.

I completely agree with you that an appraisal can represent anything. I just find it difficult to find a nice diamond bracelet in my area for a price that I can afford.

I would be fine with the style. I'm just looking to find a cheap replacement to my stolen bracelet.

Thanks very much for your helpful suggestions. I am going to seriously reflect once more on things.

I am sorry to hear that your bracelet was stolen. I know how it is to want to buy something to replace something that is lost. I think sometimes we believe the new item will make us have less grief about the one that is lost. Only you can decide if this is true for you.

For me, it is always best to wait until I am over the grief before I make a new purchase. Kind of like rushing into getting a new puppy when your dog has just died if that makes any sense.

I appreciate your honesty and advice.

The bracelet was stolen a couple of years ago. However, I am in a situation where I *could* afford to splurge a little bit to get back that bracelet.

However, I have been in a bit of a buying frenzy just trying to fill up the wound recently because of my money situation. I do agree that I might be rushing into things.
I guess I always have that mentality that i'll "never find a great price" for that type of product again.

I just didn't know if the expense was something I'd regret if I didn't do it kwim?

Thanks again!

Never ever buy k-n color diamonds. Especially in white setting. Anything below H in that tiny size is iffy, below J is INEXCUSABLE.
Sorry about your bracelet. I would wait if I were you. Color isn't as important as the cut. But usually melees are not ideal cut, so the color will most likely show up yellow in this bracelet.

Thank you very much for your candid and truthful response. I have been raised in the world of jewelry with my mother. So, I always think back to what she might say about the color. She would be pretty horrified at n colored diamonds, regardless of size.

You have reinforced my beliefs. Thanks for that!

Thank you for your feedback. I don't know what melees are, but I appreciate your information. I figured the color indicates a yellowed diamond, so I'm glad you helped me make up my mind.

I think I will wait.

Melee is the term for the tiny diamonds used in pave, or in general the smaller diamonds like that.

Regarding this piece: that appraisal is ridiculously overinflated.

Low colors can be beautiful, but most people select those on purpose, and usually in a smaller range. But K-N in one piece? No. Not even the most immaculately cut K-N stones should all be in one piece like this, unless you were building something yourself on purpose. That's a giant range, J-K melee would be fine. L-M melee would be fine. But K-N? No.

I almost feel like the appraisal put K-N just to cover all basis.

Thanks very much for taking the time to explain to me not only the term melee, but also taking into consideration my dilemma. I didn't know that the range of color in a tennis bracelet shouldn't vary so widely like it does in the appraisal I have in this post.

You have helped enlighten me regarding diamond choice via colors in jewelry, including bracelets. Please know you are doing good things by assisting people like me from not throwing their money away on a poor quality item but actually acquiring a piece that is wonderful :smile1:

I have really appreciated all of your insights.

Thanks for your reinforcement about the appraisal. I think you're right as well about that scenario.

I am glad to be of assistance! I really hate for someone to not get the best for their money, and this really is not a good deal. It's worth the time and effort to be armed with the knowledge we've shared with you for when you DO go make the next purchase. There are places that use really nice melee diamonds in their pieces, and you do get what you pay for.

I know you're trying to replace something you lost, and I have been there--my wedding set was stolen a few years back--but if you want a quality piece, save the money for a little while longer and get the best your money can buy. It'll mean more to you as a whole later if you replace it with a really nice piece that is well made with great stones, and get it insured for easier replacement if something happens later.
