Hello guys,
Since I live in a fax free economy, I have no enough info on tax and tax refunds. That’s why I’m seeking your knowledge on this matter :confused1:

Don’t know if I can ask this question in here or not.. please feel free to remove this thread if it is not appropriate..:idea:

I bought 2 birkin bags from the FHS..
Each invoice has had 530 euro as a tax refund.

When I went to the airport to declare both invoices, the tax guy said that I have to mail both invoices to Hermes and that Hermes shop will refund the amount, total 1060 euro, by injecting the money into my credit card account. :confused1:

I left France on August 15, and i mailed the invoices on the same day. but still didn’t get any refund. :confused1:

Do you know how long does that really take? Do you think I have to contact the FHS?

Ray of Light - the VAT refund can take 4-6 weeks if memory serves. it does not come from Hermes, it comes from the EU tax bureau. you will get a credit on your credit card. the confirmation given to you at the airport may have customer service contacts, or maybe you can look it up online if you really don't get your refund.

In my experience, hermes refunds have been the worst. I have never really mailed them or gotten that into getting it back as wasen't really that much money, but I've always gotten the tax back from every other purchase with tax refund, even small stores that have used the same refund company as H, but the H refunds have only gone through once/3 times when I had to mail it. :nogood: The longest I've waited is three months. If there was anything wrong on your fiche for some reason, it wont go through. (Also they give less tax back than other companies for some reason)

I just got a tax refund from H now after visiting in august. Good luck on yours.

Also there will often be several counters, some giving refunds for more companies than others. IMO getting the cash gives you a better deal on currency and doesen't leave it out in the blue.

ok i am confuse, i never took care of my vat refunds, so this is gonna be my 1st time. so who should i send the tax form to? hermes or eu tax bureau? thank you

There is not such a thing as EU tax buro that would deal with private shoppers..... Each county has their own VAT department, and those exclusively deal with companies . Never with private persons.Quite often the VAT rate is different frome one European country to another.

Tax refund from Hermes actually comes from Hermes. ( unless you shop from an independantly owned Hermes store) They are extremely slow and they refund a very low amount of taxes. ( 10% of your total amount of purchase.)

There are a few tax refund companies as Premier or Global Refund who are much faster. If you shop from a store afiliated to one of those companies,( including independantly owned Hermes stores) you will generally get about 13% back ( in France or Italy) . There are a bit faster than Hermes...but still slow.

You must have got an enveloppe with your tax refund papers... Use that enveloppe , it is pre-stamped and the address is written on it !

^^My experience in the past was with Global and I had no complaints and thought they worked quickly. I had the refund posted to cc by the time the bill arrived!

I think it is important to relate your experiences to the country from which you bought. If you buy Hermes from France, Hermes takes care of the refund, which is only 10%, and they only do it when the forms are posted back to there. But elsewhere in Europe, Hermes uses Global, if memory serves correctly. Global is one of the better tax refund companies out that. So if the OP bought directly from FSH, s/he would have to wait for Hermes to effect the refund through credit card, and they take an awfully long time. Global is a lot faster.

You are perfectly correct.

Since Ray of Light talked about FSH, my answer was meant for Hermes in France.

HELLO LADIES,

i just want to let you all know that i have received my TAX-FREE REFUND. it took them 7 weeks to refund the money in my credit card account. Thank you doloressmia, roxane, liberte, royteng76, loveaddict, perlerare, gracekelly, you are the BEST :) love you all
