Tax free for out of state order?

My friend recently ordered a bag from NM but they shipped her wrong color. I remember I saw some threads here before about tax free for out of state order ( like ordering from NY and ship to CA), can someone confirm this to me? Thanks!

No, not if your state also has NM.

It is only tax free if you purchase from a retailer that doesn't have a presence in the state you reside. So if you ordered from NM in NJ, for example, you would still be taxed the CA sales tax sine they have retail stores in CA. HTH

If you make a purchase at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC and ship to CA, then it's tax free. But not NM.
