TLDR : do you need or have to take a break from Hermes? , or do you only need to slow down? Come join and share your thoughts , feelings, or your support.

I think this thread should remain specific to Hermes Shopping and not moved to the general discussion because shopping at H is very specific.

I found myself reflecting on my last unpopular opinion and I think that it shows that I am not comfortable with the time, energy and money I spent for my H shopping in 2023.

I got an offer end of the year and wanted to slow down a bit after that.
But still, I found myself sending a text to my SA for a coat that I just saw and « need » to get.

I dont need new shoes, a coat, much more H scarves, expensive RTW, a bag or whatever right now honestly.
I mainly bought RTW last year because I wanted some nice pieces to balance my outfits. I was not buying to get a bag as I was lucky with my SA and home store, and I have a nice collection now.

I love all my H items and bags and use them often.I also love spending time shopping with my SA who is lovely.
I realised that when I am particularly stressed with work, I shop nice pieces because « I deserve it and they make me happy »

I am financially comfortable with my purchases but my funds are limited and even if they were not, I dont want to spend constantly that much at H. It is probably not a big amount for many here, but for the majority of people in real life it is huge…

For this year I would like to slow down, put less energy on shopping at H because I feel self conscious and want to focus on my business and my self development.

I know it will not be easy and I will need support because H makes beautiful things and It is difficult at times to resist . And if my SA call for something special, I might run to the store tomorrow..

Can we make this thread a place where we can support each other, without judging ?

If you want a break or slow down , just come in and share your thoughts, your feelings, or ask for advice if needed. If you are hesitant about ordering a piece, just ask for help or guidance related to the decision, not the item, the price or the redundancy with something you own already .
And if you still want to buy, It is also ok.

This is just a place for reflection, support, sharing experience…
Thanks for reading my longest post  and if you have tips, I am all ears ( or eyes for reading your post)

What a timely thread. I was thinking the same thing.

I have EVERYTHING I need from Hermes and yet I still find myself checking out things and plotting purchases just to keep the relationship, 'in case' I need it. But I don’t!

I think reading this forum gives me FOMO. To see so many struggle to build a good relationship with the store and for me to abandon my relationship seems wasteful and imprudent. But I am determined to go back to my minimalist way and be even more selective with what I buy.

ETA: thank you @Chanelandco for starting the thread.

I totally understand how you feel. I have a nice collection of bags, many of which probably don't get used as often as they should. I have plenty of jewelry, RTW, shoes and scarves as well. Lord knows I certainly don't NEED anything, but as you noted, if my SA called with something that caught my eye there's no guarantee I would say no.

That being said, though, I have labeled 2024 as the year of the purge for me. Not only trying to unload so much of the stuff we already have, but also not to acquire more things as well. Maybe it's the new empty nester phase we're in, but I'm really ready to simplify and downsize. I've always been a shopper, though, and love colorful, shiny, pretty things, lol, so needless to say it will be a challenge to hold myself to my goal. But hey, acknowledging is the first step, right?

So as much fun as I think it is to enable purchases, I will try also to hold ourselves accountable and be, ahem, a voice of reason. Good luck to us all!!

Maintaining the relationship while taking a break is certainly not easy . And yes the forum is very enabling to keep your « relationship »but also to buy the lovely items you see shared here. So trying to get support here will need one to select the tread to look at.

Exactly! Writing down the ´problem’ is the beginning of the solution.
I also love shiny and colorful things so I get you.
Buying less, beeing more mindfull and keeping ourselves accountable… Sums it up very well.
I was thinking that finding a way to make the things we have visible could be helpfull.
You want new oran?! Go and check how many you have already..
Good luck to us all

I'm not sure that we "need" any more bags, RTW, scarves, etc, but we do have a deep appreciation
for the brand in spite of the many obstacles we are subjected to & that seems to be the drawing card.
H does or has spoiled us over time with the beauty, distinctiveness & level of quality it offers
& many of us have our opinions about how challenging it could be to place a SO, what pre-spends are,
dealing with SA's & the list goes on.
Think that many of us are putting more thought as to what we really need in our life as well as our
lifestyles. I don't have an H imaginary life I have a real life that needs bags, scarves & RTW that is
practical.
I still will look at the RTW because that is the category that I think my wardrobe needs to be a
little bit more well rounded, but I have Kelly's that I haven't used for a period of time & recently
purchased a Lindy & Bolide that just seem to fit better in my everyday life although I used my Kelly
today.
So, I guess that if we see something that is a standout we will likely make the purchase, but it
is also fun to shop in our own closets & look at our former purchases with a new set of eyes.
@Chanelandco, thanks for letting us share our thoughts candidly!

Count me in! I have enough and don’t need more. But I do want one more bag…and perhaps a few smaller items like scarves and SLGs.

It feels 😮‍💨🙂 to say the above out loud. Thanks for starting this thread @Chanelandco .
Bravo for saying that out loud.
We all know however that one more bag is the rabbit hole, the never ending bumpy love story.
I would love a green or a blue bag as well, I will have to decide if I need to forget about that bag for the time being.

Adding that this new mindset of mine, ie the purge, is being applied to other areas/brands/items besides H. I have to say though that many of H's new collections, whether it's fine jewelry, shoes or scarves, don't really excite me so taking a break or slowing down isn't going to be that difficult. There are a few of their RTW items that have caught my eye, so maybe I'll consider some of those, but their other categories are a bit meh for me right now.

Yep! Very timely post.
I too feel that I have "enough". I'm very happy and have a bag for basically any occasion or outfit, and as many shawls and scarves as I could realistically use.

I do think the new tone of this forum, with its focus on prespend and "scoring quota bags", has had its effect on me, where I feel I should take all the bags 🤣 and consider myself lucky. But not only do I not need another bag (not that any of us need such things) - I don't actively want anything except certain unusual, collector-type pieces - and honestly, I don't have any wish to be one of those people who auction "An Exceptional Hermès Collection" when they pass, or when they just get tired of SO MUCH stuff.

Anyone who's read my posts knows I do not believe in prespend or "the game" or any of these things. I respect those who do, it's just not for me. Yet...I find myself influenced by the opinions, experiences, and desires of others, which makes no sense

At this point, if I were to be offered something I dearly want, I would edit to make room for it. I'm already editing to some extent and letting go of quite a few things.

Not sure if I am taking a break from H specifically, but I know that even thinking about shopping as anything more than delight and an expedition of beautiful things - that's not for me :shrugs:

Thank you for sharing @Love Of My Life !
Your post is spot on :
we do have a deep appreciation
for the brand in spite of the many obstacles we are subjected to & that seems to be the drawing card.

I think that is exactly that in my case.
I love the quality, the service and feel like a million bucks when I wear my leather jackets. But how many leather jacket do we need?

Putting more thought on what we really want in our life and our lifestyle is key. And I have to say I am currently redefining Who I am and What I want.

Love this thread. 2023 I was a bad girl, then some unexpected financial obligations came up and a little less than stellar year at work all made for the perfect storm for feeling a little financially tight. No debt, but just that uncomfortable feeling. Plus all these brands getting crazy with price increases. Even H, that has never had price increase in US from Jan 2 and 8-10% on top of that has made me seriously consider my spending habits. 2023 was the first year in 11 years that I have not gotten a bag from H, but I made up with other objects from other brands. I have more than enough from H that I can definitely slow down. I am planning to only go to boutique every 3-4 months. even less if possible. This thread sounds like a great place to help keep me accountable. I really want
(and will make) 2024 a low buy year. My exception is only H, that one more bag on my wish list. I am past my pre-spend limit, so I will wait. I am in no hurry, mostly because the funds have to be replenished. LOL

Timely post ! For 2023 , I actually have taken a step back from acquiring more leather goods - including shoes. I love what i have and i need to use them instead of jonesing for the next item on my long list . So I got rid of my list and never looked back .

Also as you accumulate things , organization really becomes challenging and 2024 will be an organization year for me .
Love to travel and decided whatever comes my way which will commemorate that trip is when i will consider grabbing another H bag or item. Cheers TPF H forum! May 2024 bring good tidings to everyone !

This is a lovely thread. I am not sure I will spend less because I still have wants (not needs) in certain categories. I do want to be sure I am making intentional purchases for items I love and will use.

I do treasure the vast majority of my H items but I have definitely made some purchases this year on impulse that if I had thought about it more carefully or not been caught up in the moment with my SA, I did not truly love and should not have purchased.

So for me 2024 is the year of well thought out intentional purchase. I hope that works in this thread also!
