Over here in the UK its illegal for cyclists to be on the pavement, which in some cases seems a bit ridculous.Where we are there are lots of very fast rural bendy roads, sometimes you don't see other drivers until they pop out from round the bend, usually at a fair old lick!! There are lots of footpaths and pedestrians hardly,if ever, use them. A lot of these roads are unlit at night and as the speed limit is high folks do hammer along. I think in some cases such as location and conditions cyclists should be allowed to go up onto the pathways where its much safer for them.

But as for going on the paths around city centers and stuff, that pisses me off beyond belief!! They swing round folks walking, relying on the fact they are not going to suddenly change direction or stop, and they cut so close to you you can practically smell thier breath!!! When you have a pram,or are just trying to get from a to b,its damn well annoying and dangerous!!

I totally thought this was football tailgating! But I hate tailgaters as well.
I am not a slow driver so it rarely happens to me. I am however a big baby when it comes to snow so that's when it'll happen sometimes on backroads - I just ignore them.

If I'm on the highway in the left lanes & someone comes up behind obviously wanting to go faster - I move to the right. I'm sorry but IMO that's what you should do. You don't own your lane & the lanes to the left are fast/passing lanes. If you can't keep up with your lanes traffic then move over. If that driver gets a ticket so what? What concern is it to you? Let them go on their merry way. Do not sit in the fast lane going below the speed limit to prove a point - that is plain childish & causes traffic back up.
I've seen 4 lanes of highway traffic backed up because people won't change lanes appropriately with miles of clear sailing past them - if they would just MOVE OVER. It isn't personal.

He was correct, he has just as much right to be on the road as cars.
Here in Vegas, its actually illegal for bike riders to be on the sidewalk.

Yep...in lots of states, it's illegal for bikes to be on a sidewalk. Actually, bikes are considered vehicles and have the same rights to the road that autos have. They're supposed to obey the same laws/signals/signs as well. Plus...he's not polluting the planet with toxic gases, so I think he had more of a right of way! ;)
