How do you deal with them? I was driving on a rainy night curvy road and there was a car right on my butt...there was no place for me to pull over as I continued to do the speed limit. At one point they put their brights on. I was enraged. What would you have done? After what seemed like an eternity I was able to pull over and then......

:cursing:

I had someone turn there brights on me once...

I was on a street that is known for having speeding traps so I was going the speedlimit as was the person driving next to me. So I was driving along with my younger brother when all of a sudden I see the grill of one of those humngous vans in my rearview mirror. Now im in a little tiny beetle so its already scaring me but im not about to speed up and get a ticket from the nice cop that I just spotted up ahead so I keep the speed limit and this guy decides its going to be fun to turn on his brights leaving me completely blind as I look in my rear view mirror, so I turn my rear view mirror to the side so I cant see the lights and open my window... also for some freakish reason its not shining in my side mirrors (thats how close the a-hole is). So we pass by the nice cop who obviously doesnt realize this vans apparently trying to mate with my beetle and I see a light and I know this light and I know that by where I am if the walk sign turns to DONT WALK I can make the light if I speed through it at the last minute :yahoo: I go and Its turning yellow as I get closer so I hit my gas, speed through stick my hand out the window and shoot the a-hole my finger as he is stuck at the red light

I also ended up taking the side streets because I really didnt need some van rammed into the back of my beetle :sweatdrop:

ever since then I am known to piss of tail gaters because heck if they hit me its on their butt :boxing:

LOL! I can't stand tailgaters, especially when there are mutiple lanes, and the person can easily get in that other lane, never understood that! Sometimes I just go much much slower, like 10mph, and the tailgater usually gets mad and passes me. But most of the time, I just pull over and get out of the idiot's way, and let them pass me.

You never know who is in a car that is behind you. Screwing with that "unknown" is never worth it IMO. Let them pass. Losing your life to someone who may have a gun, and who is having a bad day, is not worth it.

Ore. firefighter, brother-in-law shot after confronting tailgater
12/11/2007, 8:53 p.m. PST
The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A firefighter and his brother-in-law were shot after they confronted a driver tailgating them down a treacherous stretch of U.S. 26 from Mount Hood, police said.

Joshua Gehrke, 32, a Clackamas County firefighter and paramedic, was listed in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the gut Tuesday night at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland

His brother-in-law, Joseph Langley, 33, was shot in the arm and released from OHSU.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. Monday while Gehrke, Langley, Gehrke's 9-year-old son and another 9-year-old boy were returning from a snowboarding trip on Mount Hood.

Langley, the driver, told the Oregon State Police that he eventually stopped their van on the shoulder of U.S. 26 and the car that had been tailgating them pulled behind.

Gehrke and Langley told troopers they got out of the van, walked toward the car and had a verbal exchange with the driver. A man described as in his 30s and wearing a baseball cap fired at least two rounds at Gehrke and Langley.

The men said they ran back to the van and briefly drove west before pulling over, about a quarter of a mile from the Hoodland Fire District No. 74 station.

Fire Capt. Linn Norgard was heading out of the fire station parking lot to head home when he heard the dispatch call over the radio: "A shooting, two men injured, possible road rage, on U.S. 26 near East Lolo Pass Road."

He said word spread quickly among law enforcement and firefighters that one of their own had been wounded.

"It adds a little bit of concern," Norgard said Tuesday. "It's a brotherhood."

my mom just pulls over. i ask why she doesnt get mad or do anything, she replied, "why should i?? if they want to go speeding away hurrying to their death, who am i to stand in their way??"

Most of you guys are NUTS!! Do you REALLY want to risk someone slamming into your car?? Sure, the A-hole behind you has to pay for the damage to your car, but no amount of money is going to recoup what a rear-end collision will do to your body. A lot of you that have replied to this thread are young, but when you get older, your health is far more important that "proving a point".

You guys that are flipping off people really need to grow up! Sorry, but that's how I feel about it. What's the point of that? Whose immaturity is being shown by doing that? Why on EARTH would anyone risk their personal safety by flipping off someone that already has CLEARLY demonstrated that they have issues or they wouldn't be sitting on your ass anyway. No one knows what's under the seat of someone that puts public safety at risk by scraping the bumper of the car in front of them.

Slowing down to 2MPH? Again, inappropriate and ridiculously dangerous along with you guys that gleefully think confrontation is the way to go.

Driving is serious business. Get serious! If you've got a tailgater, maintain your speed and let them go around you. If they are clearly into road rage, then by God, pull the hell over and get out of their way, try to get their license plate number and call 911. Who wants to DIE to make a point about traffic laws??

And those of you who do tailgate: SHAME ON YOU!!

Rant over.....

sweet jesus!! I HATE THAT!! lol

once I was driving on the road and this guy was clearly tailgating me. he was so close he could probably see my face. anyway i looked in the rearview mirror (in the car) and I looked at him and used my hand and made a brush off movement. Plus my face looked disgusted,

well he got the message and slowed down to give me some room. But there were times where the people dont care and just tailgate you. once i slowed my car really slow, cause i know this guy wasnt going to hit my car. and he got mad! LOL so I drove even slower. he then knew to back away.

People like that IMO are irresponsible drivers. what if something happened caused me to stop suddenly? I have excellent brakes. so when i press on them, my car comes to a complete halt!

there was a funny bumper sticker that read "if your going to ride my a$$, then at least pull my hair!

I hate when people do that...usually here in Texas it's the macho guys in their pick up trucks that are usually drunk that do that....so annoying. I usually let them pass if I can..it's not worth getting road rage over it.

So we pass by the nice cop who obviously doesnt realize this vans apparently trying to mate with my beetle and...

OMG This was hilarious! You just made me laugh out loud, literally, while at work. Can you imagine what the children between a beetle and a van would look like?

You never know who is in a car that is behind you. Screwing with that "unknown" is never worth it IMO. Let them pass. Losing your life to someone who may have a gun, and who is having a bad day, is not worth it.

That story is insane. I can't imagine shooting someone over road rage. That man was insane. Although, I would NEVER get off my car and approach another vehicle. As the article above proved, there is no telling what other people will do.

Depends of where I'm driving I usually just change lanes ..most of my driving is on highways. I do brake check (I know it's bad) but they're soo annoying.

Lately I"ve been practicing using a technique taught to me at race school called "left foot braking" which allows me to slightly tap the brake pedal while maintaining the same speed I was traveling. This way the tailgater won't slam into your rear bumper.
