Tadelakt leather?

My recently purchased 23 cm potiron Constance has been confirmed as Tadelakt by the leather specialist at my H boutique. I just checked the tag and it says "calfskin." I haven't taken her out yet, but the leather is the most beautiful dark orange and I can tell it will soften up. The bag is made up of many layers of leather and several compartments. Where the flap folds back to open and close is going to wrinkle and soften up, it's going to be a favorite for me. I'm afraid more for the hardware scratching, but it's palladium, not gold, so I should just worry more about fingerprints and use the beautiful bag, right!!!

The bag was purchased at the NY sale last month!!! Otherwise, I would have never been able to get this holy grail bag in any size, let alone the 23!

Can anyone else who owns a tadelakt leather wallet or bag, pls advice. I hv kelly 28griolet tadelakt bag on hold. Color is very light, so if scratches occurs, it will be very obvious like Transcendent's wallet. :confused1:

^ I own a few tadelakt bags and I must advise that this is one leather that needs some form of babying. Definitely not a leather that can take a lot of abuse. So far, all my tadelakt bags are clutches so it's easier to maintain them and prevent scratching but if it's a larger tadelakt kelly that you are planning to use on a day-to-day basis, then you will need to be ready for some scratching on your bag. I have had a few accidents with my tadelakt clutches, but nothing too heart-stopping and the minute scratches are hardly noticeable. Personally, I love how this leather takes on colours so vibrantly and have not regretted getting tadelakt bags. However, I would never get a tadelakt SLG because I don't think this leather can withstand daily handling and possible nail scratching. Lol. =) Griolet in tadelakt is gorgy and at the end of the day, I say go for it! =)

I own a rouge vif tadalak bombay.....take it out to parties etc...holds up better than box for sure....I got gelato all over it and it came off.....stained the fabric part of zipper but not the bag.

does scratch some but pretty dang hardy.

I would say its hardy box...

I think tadelakt (I can never get the spelling right) does better in dark colors and bright colors like Rouge VIF than it does in lighter colors like Griolet. My Griolet Paris Bombay would look like carp if I carried it often and was not careful with it. I hate babying any bag.

Hi

Would you consider a kelly wallet in takelakt leather? I heard this type of leather scratches easily. Please share your experiences with this leather esp for ladies who have it for a long time. I want to know how it holds up in the long run.
Thanks!

I have a parchemin clutch for 5 yrs, scratches show but it doesn't bother me.
My view is that it is not the toughest leather and scratches show up more compared to togo/clement.

My Kelly is takelakt, it's quite delicate. I don't mind the scratches but the corners are peeling even being really careful with it. I don't think it will ever develop a patina like box either. I think for SLG, it should be ok. If I have a choice for my next bag,I will probably not want takelakt again. As we all know though, 'choice' is not an option when it comes to H.

As others have noted, it seems to work for bracelets, but I am wary of it for bags. Seems as if it wrinkles a bit and scratches. Maybe someone with a gillies kelly or birkin in tadalact will chime in.

good point lulilu, now i remember i did see a lady carrying a rubis ghillie b35 a few months ago in harrods and the bag did look wrinkled! the bag looks new, but the leather just doesn't look right...as in it is a stiff leather but forced to be supple! i remember thinking to myself this is not going to age well...

Would be interesting to hear from other members
I just bought a absolutely beautiful Kelly in this leather and so far so good
Not sure what is meant by "wrinkling" ??
That has not been a problem at all so far
Also have a Medor clutch in it that is now maybe 6 years old and it is perfect.
When this leather was first introduced it was to be an alternative to box.
It has a softer hand than box and takes color well. It holds shape and has a velvety sheen.
I like it-
