This is a thread out of curiosity and research...My boyfriend told me about this new technology on creating "perfect" diamonds...it's identical to a perfect natural diamond except they have created new technology to create diamonds now rather than mining them. Have any of you ever bought one or thought of buying one? It's an interesting thought for using it engagement ring imo...but what do you guys think? Tacky or no? Would u ever do that for ur engagement ring?

So far - I have not found a single bad review...and according to alot of people, alot of gemologists saw the synthetic diamonds look gorgeous and flawless in color and cut..in fact, they can not even tell it's synthetic without using a machine to run tests to tell. I'm curious to see what most of you think...

Oh I'm not making a decision right now... I googled alot of it last night already. I'm just curious about what you guys think. There's alot of ladies who used it in their e-ring but if I get engaged in few years I don't know if I'd want that because of value and naturality. But what happens if in few years this business takes over?? And their value will go up??

there are political reasons why people would choose a synthetic diamond so if that's an option for you, i don't see why not. i guess to make it really worth it, the price point has to be drastically less expensive than its equivalent natural diamond.

I'm of the opinion that the chances of value going up on a synthetic diamond over that of a natural one are slim to none. If the "blood diamond" issue is what bothers you, just be sure you are purchasing from a vendor that does not support this trade.

And to answer the question, do I find it tacky? I wouldn't say it in so many words but it's simply not for me - and I am one that has considered it. I can tell the difference between a natural and a synthetic as easily as I can tell a natural from a CZ so I'm not sure about the gemologists not being able to tell the difference. Just do whatever makes YOU happy. It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks. If you're comfortable with it, by all means do it. You'll save a lot of money in the process.

I saw these sites. I dont know if I can imagine having my e-ring with a synthetic diamond, might sound snobby but for my e-ring, I want the best. I was really curious about these things because if it's all the same materials being used to make a diamond just like a natural diamond would be made, how come it isnt more recognized? Am I making sense?

i wanted a nice e-ring at one point. after seeing the movie blood diamond...i am not so sure if i still want one...not that bf is proposing
i actually think i'll be fine with a synthetic diamond if it's nicely designed.

It wouldn't bother me at all, not that your opinion should be swayed by what a stranger says to you.

After 26 years of marriage (and plenty of money in the bank) I don't have an engagement ring at all and I'm fine with that. I have plenty of right hand rings, both diamond and faux diamonds set in gold/platinum, and I love 'em all.
