When I decided to purchase my Halzan 31, the SA told me he'd set it aside for me. I told him that was unnecessary. He insisted. It took quite some time for me to get back to the store to buy it. It never dawned on my until just yesterday that bags other than Birkin and Kelly bags had limited availability. My first Hermès bag was preowned and the color is Blue Jean. For this one, I wanted black with matching stitching and PHW. Honestly, I thought I could just order it online from Hermès.com, but wanted the whole experience.

Is Hermès that much different than other retailers? What is back there in the stock room? I thought if the bag came in black, there'd be more than one black bag in the stockroom. How far off am I?

Depending on the color seasonal vs. classic things vary in terms of availability. In high tourist areas this especially rings true.

There are only certain bags that are available on h.com and even the availability of that changes. Take the Picotin for example, they are flying off the shelves and off h.com at record speed. A malachite K or B might take a bit longer...but I find that if I want a Jige or an evelyne my store always has plenty. Hope that makes sense.

There are a limited amount of any bags at any one time, plus storage is limited. If you think of the endless combos of models, colours and sizes plus hardware it would be impossible to have everyone's wishes. People who read this forum may be forgiven for thinking it's all about the Bs ad Ks but not everyone wants to carry those bags all the time, not even people who already have ad love them.

That's why people come to this forum, the info of what's coming in for this and/or next season is invaluable. Unless someone knows exactly what he/she wants from what's coming in, even before it arrives, it's difficult to know what's around. I would say that most things are spoken for before being put out on the shelves. If it's a special Pic or Evie, a ltd. ed. GP, new SLG or lovely combo charm, whatever it is, there'll be list for them.

I feel like I wasn't understanding that when the SA told me that he had a black Halzan with black stitching in stock. He said he'd hold it for me. I kept insisting that he not hold it, as it would take me a couple of weeks to make a final decision to do it. But he kept insisting. It finally dawned on me that that might have been the only one of that color and stitching combo available, as I don't even see it online anymore with the PHW.

I'm not a Birkin or Kelly kind of woman (I say that now), but I am intrigued by the scarcity or perceived scarcity of the bags.

Again, I do think it is mainly perceived and tightly managed to create that perception. But you will hear from everyone that if you see your dream bag, no matter what it is, you should grab it, and I think that is very true!
Enjoy your Halzan, it is a great bag.
