I wanted to ask my fellow jewelry lovers, if you were coming up on a major birthday, what would you want as a gift from your SO? Originally we were going to go on a vacation and cover a couple of bucket list places, but it doesn't look like the world will be in shape for that yet at that point (summer, 2021).

I'm curious as to what you would want, as well as if you have any ideas about what I might want. Here are my general jewelry likes and dislikes:

  1. I am completely disinterested in Rolex.
  2. I already have a beautiful watch, from my last milestone birthday, and don't really wear it much.
  3. My wedding set is platinum. I am a platinum fan because it's harder, and anything on my hands tends to get abused.
  4. I like rose gold.
  5. The items that I have loved that have escaped...a perfect peacock pearl drop on a rose gold necklace, a yellow diamond eternity band from Graff, a green diamond solitaire necklace, also in rose gold.

Happy Summer Birthday! I’m having a milestone birthday this summer as well. You should be able to recreate a solitaire pendant. I bet the lovely ladies here would have more information on how to come by a GIA certified green diamond. Leibish is the only name online that I’ve heard that specializes in colored stones. I have never worked with them.

I have a milestone birthday (50) in a few days and asked for a piece of jewelry. My DH and I just got married in April, so I asked for a gold signet ring with our initials hooked together in scrollwork to wear on my right hand ring finger. I like simple....the peacock drop sounds lovely. A bracelet with the number of your birthday in stones or pearls would be nice too.

Happy birthday! And happy (quite) early anniversary!

How about a tennis bracelet or diamond bangle set in rose gold?

I purchased my Roberto Coin 5.5 tcw RG diamond bangle and love it! I wear it every day stacked with other bangles.

I also love this RG cushion cut, halo set diamond necklace or yellow diamonds from Damas.

Happy Birthday, Bitty! :drinks: My recommendation is that you choose a piece of jewelry that you can wear everyday. As one gets older (alas) the special occasions where one can wear special jewelry grow to be infrequent. Jewelry that one can wear every day, no matter the occasion or outfit, give more pleasure. Again, Happy Birthday! I'm sure the piece you choose will be fabulous.

Thank you!

the funny thing is as I’ve gotten older (pre-rona) I have had many more events to attend. But now I doubt there will be any flashy galas for a good long while.

The right simple, but lush high quality piece looks as beautiful with a cocktail dress as it does a button down and jeans. That peacock pearl you mentioned, for instance...

Happy Birthday Bitty!
I second or third those above that say get one of the items that got away. Have it custom made and have fun working on the project with the jeweler. The green diamond solitaire in RG would be easy to have custom made. Your jeweler would have to source the green diamond and you'd get to pick the specs...then you just need to decide on the design of the setting and what type of chain you'd like. This could definitely be a daily driver!
