Hello!
I love the Panthere 2-tone small watch but am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for something similar but perhaps from a different brand? I'm looking for 2-tone metal bracelet, quartz or automatic is fine. No diamonds, no pearl face. I'm just wondering if anyone other than Cartier makes a watch that fits this casual-yet-dressy vibe as well as the Panthere.
Thanks

‘Michele’ watches may be similar in style?
Not sure what price range you were interested in. I do not own a Michele watch, but I do have a panthere and think Michele watches have a similar link/look. Hope this helps.

Hi, thank you! Michele watches are pretty but they are a little bigger and chunkier than what I have in mind for this particular purchase. I do appreciate that Michelles are often automatic, which results in the bulk, but for this particular purchase I would prefer to have something fairly dainty. The panthere is very small, which for this particular aesthetic aim, is perfect.

As far as price, I'm hoping for less than what the Panthere costs ($8K currently for the 2-tone and $20K+ for the yellow gold). Ideally, pricing would be under $5K for a 2-tone watch. Otherwise no more than the cost of the current Panthere. The reason I am searching for an alternative is part price but also part the dial. I wish the Panthere dial wasn't flat white and black. I wish it had either a sunburst pattern or applied hour markers (rather than painted), guilloche, or something a little more special.

I honestly feel that it is a bit overpriced for being simply a quartz movement with such a plain dial. I do appreciate the steeled blue hands, but that isn't quite enough to justify the price. I feel like for the 2-tone it is probably about $2-3K worth of watch and overhead expense and $5-6K worth of name. I mean, I could be way wrong, but I doubt it. For their jewelry I can justify the large upcharge for their name because jewelry lasts for generations if taken care of. My heirs will appreciate inheriting a Cartier ring, which will need nothing more than a little cleaning or polishing and be worth more because it is a Cartier. But watches deteriorate over time and eventually become dated to the point of being non-wearable, regardless of brand. I love vintage watches, but the women's vintage watch market is pretty anemic. Those watches look super dated and except for oddballs like me, very few people want to wear them or feel it is worth spending upwards of $200 to repair them. I have to assume that will be the fate of any women's watch, even a Cartier, especially a quartz movement. Therefore since I do not believe they will hold value as well as jewelry, I do not want to pay that much for their quartz watches if there is a better alternative for the money. I mean, hey, if I get a big raise and money is no object, then I'll get one without thinking about it!

Thus my hope that someone will know of some 2-tone or yellow gold watches that have the same level of dainty, bracelet-like look, without diamonds or pearl face, but with more interest and craftsmanship in the dial than what is seen in the current Panthere model.

Thanks!!

Thank you, Everyone! I have looked up all of the above suggestions and I still only have eyes for the Panthere. I'll just have to save up for what I really want, as I don't see any alternatives that I like as well.

Thanks!

I don't think there's anything out there that has the feel of the classic Panthere. You owe it to yourself to try it on in person so that you know for sure whether anything else will do.
Agreed. I have tried it on and I agree, it is the only thing I've seen that ticks all the boxes that the Panthere does. The only possible alternatives I've run across are very old vintage watches, but most of those are too dainty. There's just nothing else that gives that dainty-yet-sturdy as well as modern-yet-timeless feel that the Panthere gives.

I'm a little late to this but have you considered the JLC Reverso? They have mechanical movement women's watches with the reverso feature and guilloché dials for under $8,000 (less if you go pre-owned), although in fairness they don't do the two-toned look very much. They have that whimsical "round-in-rectangle" look that has a similar feel to the Cartier Panthere and Tank (imho JLC even does it better than Cartier, but to each their own). Very dressy watch and definitely a conversation-starter, if you haven't taken a look at it yet

Definitely agree with your frustrations about the women's watch market (or, rather, the lack thereof!). There are SO many beautiful, functional, robust, interesting watches out there that I love, but watchmakers don't bother making them in sizes friendly to ladies' wrists!

I agree about the Reverso. I've seen 2-tone ones on RealReal that have bracelets almost exactly like the Panthere.

And YES about cool watches being made for men! Ugh!! I love watches but so few fit unless they're covered in diamonds. I like jewelry as much as the next person, but can't a woman appreciate watches and jewelry separately? It's like they think women only want watches as jewelry and cover them with bling.
