Suggest a durable simple nylon bag

I am going back to work after mat leave and I need a durable nylon bag that is waterproof (I live on the west coast!) large enough to carry lunch, wallet glasses, make up bag, knitting project bag (I am a commuter). It should also be comfy to carry. Non brand name is OK, it should be simple though no garish tacky stuff. Dark colors preferred, and classic shape.
Budget - 150USD.

I know that many will suggest Longchamp Le Pliage but I am interested in other suggestions since durability of Le Pliage has changed when the production was moved to China.

Any ideas?

Dooney has a few nylon totes that look roomy and lightweight! Or you might get a good deal on MZ Wallace during their Xmas advent calendar event.

For your budget, Le SportSac or Kipling. Both companies make black as well as prints. Both my teens have used them as school bags, and they lasted the entire year.
Happy hunting

So I gather you are looking for a bag that is not made in China?

I have Longchamp that are made in both France and China and I haven't noticed a difference in wear one way or the other. I do know that Longchamp does own their own manufacturing facility there and states that they keep the same training/ quality standards that they have in France.

I think you're going to have a hard time finding a nylon tote NOT made in China (in general). In terms of Longchamp, if you buy it from Nordstrom or some other place, you can check the tag inside first before buying if that helps.

Another vote for Kipling! I own several and none of them have started to show signs of wear...plus they have very nice-looking new styles.
Björn Borg also makes cool bags, it's a brand worth looking into. :smile1:

Thanks for the suggestion! I found this one in Zappos
http://www.zappos.com/kipling-mimie-medium-cross-body-bag-black

which fits my style and is nice and smallish (I am 5"2 so can't carry a large bag..sadly).

Are all of their bags water proof? Ultimately, I need a waterproof bag since I intend to stop using an umbrella.

Longchamp would have been my best suggestion but I can also recommend Oilily bags. They are colorful and nylon and hold up extremely well, I have 2 which are over 4 years old and have been used a lot and they still look very good!

Some are waterproof, it's often mentioned in the product description. They don't usually line their bags with plastic (which is what Longchamp does) but even the regular nylon does keep water out for a while. The bags made of shiny material - like the Elise - are waterproof.

I did that, checked the tag till I found one made in Paris. It has held up beautifully. It's great especially for when it's raining.
