last yr i was handed down a pair of earings i just found out are platinum and diamonds. im v excited bc ive never owned platinum before. i dont have a box for them and they have just been sitting in the earing tray in my jewellery box next to my gold studs. is this bad? should i take a box from something else? will it cause them to arnish somehow?

i have platinum in boxes, lying around exposed to air, sitting with other metals....it gets scratched up a lot easier than it would getting dirty. enjoy your earrings.

Platinum is the best materials ever! It doesn't yellow over time like white gold and it does tarnish like silver. It scratches and forms a patina but if you polish it you do not lose any of the metal. If you have gold polished by a jeweler you are taking the top layer off. Not with plat--it remains its integrity

Since my Mother passed away, I have been wearing her platinum wedding ring next to mine. My Dad gave it to her on their wedding day in 1945 and it looks like new. No scratches at all and the shape is still perfectly round. No dents, and it has never gotten out of shape at all. Actually, it looks new. Platinum is a wonderful metal.

This is an easy one. Platinum is one of the most durable metals around! Typically platinum rings get a patina from microscopic scratches they accumulate, which can be polished out quite easily. Earrings, which have very little contact with hard surfaces, will look brand new for eternity.

Just make sure you set the earrings somewhere they'll be safe and accessible when you want them. They belong in your ears first and foremost ;-)
