I have a few bags and wallets of assorted contemporary and lesser known brands I no longer use and still look brand new. Have some different materials in the mix from saffiano leather, patent and faux leather. Should I bother storing them away hoping the material doesn't warp or degrade that much by the time my kid is older since I'd probably have to buy handbags for her anyway? Would my bags turn to dust by then, my kiddo is only 2 haha. Thoughts?

Unless you have a controlled environment and use special tissue and boxes, it's not advisable. Patent leather and faux materials just don't maintain their integrity.

Lord no. It's like saving used blouses: there's no reasonable gamble that your child will like your stuff later on. These aren't of special monetary or sentimental value, either. Much better to predict that you'll be happier seeing your kid grow her own tastes and preferences.

I was on the fence about it… even being in a dry climate…. if I store it away properly not sure how some materials would end up and if it’s worth keeping… maybe I’ll just see if I can sell them or donate them. Just seeing if anything might be able to be salvaged with the increasing cost of living. Sigh…. Why are non-leather bags so expensive too…. : (

If you love something and it has sentimental value, store it for yourself if you wish. But, I wouldn’t bet on kids sharing one’s taste or aesthetic :) ETA: I’ve regretted gifting some of my valuable jewelry and bags to younger family members who would clearly rather have, well, cash.

I do agree with the above post.

As she becomes older, I am thinking starting in the teen age years especially, you can pay attention to what style and tastes she may develop, if any. And see if there is interest in a dialogue. I would say, moving forward save any pieces that you really enjoy and or have special meaning. As she becomes an adult you could offer them to her.

If you have the space and don't need the money (ie consigning them), I don't see any problem with storing them. Just put in cardboard with tissue paper and some gel silica packs. Yes, these materials degrade but I'm assuming we're taking a decade or so...not centuries lol!

There's no way to know if your children will want or like them, but who knows? Maybe you'll even enjoy pulling them out in a few years!

My kid is one years old and I'm not planning on saving her any bags or anything I'm not using. I would prefer to use or invest that money now. I want to support her in exploring her own style in the future and building her a closet/wardrobe she will enjoy. Right now my downsized bag collection are all bags I love and want to use, and no I don't want to share! :D

Like, save them for her to play dress up in a year or two, or save them for her to wear as a teen?

I might consider dress up bags, but the odds of your tween-teen carrying anything you liked are very slim
