Hello, do any of you store your expensive designer handbags in a gun safe? I had my various bags on my shelf, however decided to move them to our gun safe when on vacation. I stored them with their dust bags and place some silica packs in with them. Is this bad idea?

If its temporary it should be fine. But I don't recommend it if its going to be a long vacation and you live in a humid climate & especially if you have anything that can possibly (or already has) develop mold or mildew. Someone I know had this issue where they stored their SLGs in their safe and they also had paper documents in there which formed mildew because she didn't know her silicia packets were no longer active. Luckily she had her SLGs in the box! They turned out fine but all her documents had to be cleaned because they reeked of mildew. She told me she stored her SLGs often in there with no issues for years but only recently had this problem because the silica packet she used was no longer active. She also said she didn't open her safe in almost a year so it was probably accumulating moisture since the safe was not opened in a long time.

On the matter of preventing moisture damage, I would recommend getting a few of these reusable silica gel packs:

I use them in my safe and Pelican cases to store and protect film cameras (especially lens glass is prone to mildew over time) and they last a long time before needing to be reactivated in the oven again, even here in Florida. If they turn from blue to pink, it means that they need 3 hours in the oven at 250 to dry out and they're good to go!

good topic, I ‘m storing my classic flap for a long time in my gun safe, but I guess I’ll have to take it out from time to time. Didn’t realize this untill this topic. Thanks!

I’d consider using our gun safe temporarily, I hadn’t thought about it. Our luxury items are insured.
I’d certainly never store them in there!

Eta: actually, our safe is in a safe room, so I’d probably store them there temporarily instead

Thank you! I just picked up some of these reusable packs, this is great!
