I’m hoping someone can teach me how to clean and care for the rubber (?) / rubberized (?) charms on my tote.

I purchased this preloved bag about a month ago and have been very pleased to use this coated canvas beauty as my no worries low maintenance bag.

Unfortunately, however, when I wore the bag with a red sweater, I noticed that fluff is now sticking to the charms! This is the first time I’ve had a bag with this material so I would love advice on how to clean and remove the stickiness without any damage.

Thanks so much for your assistance!

Rubberized finishes are a nightmare. I have had dozens of things go bad over the years. It is inevitable. I usually toss. You can attempt to remove the rubberized finish with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol, but the stripped down metal or plastic may end up looking ugly. I detest rubberized finishes and make a conscious effort to avoid them.

Perhaps you could take the bag to the boutique and ask if they have replacement charms you could purchase? Just know that if they are rubberized, they will degrade again.

While I’m not sure how to get rid of the stickiness (it’s annoying, I agree!), you can try taking a lint roller to the charms to remove the fuzz. This method requires upkeep - it would be easier to get rid of the sticky - but it should remove the offending fuzz.
