Steamers - Designs with front strap and lock

I am not sure why; but I really am taken with this general design, history and how useful these bags are. These bags were design for travel, fitting a ton of stuff into, keeping that stuff safe and it was fit to be seen with. Back in our grandmother's generation if you could afford a steamer, it meant you were traveling which wasn't cheap. So, they were seen a glamorous, and I am not a flashy person, but there is something dreamy about old steam trains and steam boats.

Here is a Vuitton made in France that was sold at Christie's.

I agree! The Steamer was probably bought by a collector.
Today, I don't think it would be very practical....
