I’ve been eyeing the Cartier panthere watch in a size small. The yellow gold is on my wishlist, but the price tag (even for pre-owned) is steep. I’m thinking of purchasing the stainless steel instead. For context, I wear a yellow gold love bracelet and I also own a yellow gold / black leather small Tank solo, which I don’t reach for often because the leather band makes it more high-maintenance.

My question for this group is: should I go for the SS? Will it feel like settling if I prefer the yellow gold or does the SS make it more versatile / wearable on an everyday basis? Will the metals clash or is that not an issue if I wear the bracelet and watch on separate wrists?

I recently bought small panthere watch in SS. I had initially wanted a gold but the price was too steep for me to justify. Before making a decision, I paired with gold JUC to see if it would work with SS panthere and it did so beautifully. The gold and silver complemented one another. I also looked up on Pinterest and there were many who paired silver with gold and diamonds together. I think it speaks to one’s individual style. I say go for it!

What about the two tone? You can get it for good prices pre-owned (if wanted). If you don't like this style, I say go to the store try both SS and YG on, take pictures and take your time to think over it. It is not a cheap purchase. Something else to consider, if you would get the yellow gold are you comfortable wearing it or would it be a special occasion piece? SS is easier to wear I feel, but I am more casual anyways.

Thanks so much for the reply. Would you mind sharing some photos of your watch?

I actually had the same problem as you, haha, and I was dead set on matching my YG jewelry with a YG Cartier panthere watch. At the time I thought that it would look weird if the metals did not match.
Honestly this does not make any sense, because I mix and match fine jewelry, YG, WG, RG all the time, so I'm not sure why (at the time) that I felt that stainless steel would look bad or weird with my YG jewelry.

However, now, I think that having a YG watch with all my YG jewelry stands out too much (a little too loud and ostentatious) and isn't a look that I like anymore lol
By the way, not saying that the YG panthere watch is ugly or anything, it is still extremely beautiful. It's just not to my tastes now. I would consider buying it to wear on its own but I have a YG love bracelet that I don't take off. And I only wear watches on my left wrist....which has the love bracelet lol.

Generally SS is more durable than gold and will not show wear as much. But the hardness of the SS can scratch up any YG bracelets since the gold is softer.
For the amount of money a YG Cartier panthere watch costs, it is technically and unfortunately not worth it. When we buy luxury, we are definitely paying for the brand name and the brand's design, history, and craftsmanship.

But like @880 said, if a YG panthere watch is your goal, do not settle! From personal experience, the greatest regrets I have is when I settle for something that is not exactly what I want.

If you're not in a hurry, I'd say keep on saving and thinking about it. As much as you'd like one sooner or later, I think for a good watch piece or fine jewelry, it's important to take your time. When you know, you'll know!

Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply :) I agree that it's best to take time to think through, as it's not a small purchase

I was also thinking about the two tone but at least in photos, it looks more busy / less clean. What are your thoughts?

I never tried it irl, but yes it is more busy compared to a SS or YG. I love the YG look, but for me it would be too much with my daily jewelry. You just need to try them all to see which you are drawn to. Never settle for less and follow your heart
