Hi all!

After 6 yrs. my boyfriend and I are finally designing our engagement ring:)
We have the mount all figured out and have pretty much narrowed it down to two stones. We are trying to emulate the look of Tiffany's Lucida with our own twist.
Can I please ask for some opinions on these two diamonds?

#1 Princess of Hearts 1.86 carat, I, SI1, eye clean. 7.15x 7.13. I don't have any other measurements or percentages but have seen this stone twice in person and it is magnificent! Sparkles like nothing else I have looked at so far.

#2 Square Radiant 2.18 carat, H, VS1. 7.28 x 7.04 x 5.28.
total depth 75%, table width 71%, crown height 13%, pavilion depth 60%.
This stone is in Europe and would be brought in..but it's awfully difficult to buy sight unseen but it can be returned.

We have a very specific budget and I was pretty much sold on diamond #1 until our other jeweler located this stone from his contact in Belgium. This is a family business who has worked with this supplier for 40 yrs. and they say it's a very beautiful stone.

Can anyone offer a comment on the specs I have provided? I would truly appreciate any input.
Thank you:smile1:

Personally I think you should see both. With your own eyes, even if you have to do that with photos. When the radiant gets here you might not like the faceting nearly as much. If they'll bring in #2 and can do a side-by-side for you, that's what I would say to do. They are also not the same size, #2 is definitely longer and less square. So if the shape being square is most important, get #1.

Congrats on your soon-to-be engagement!!

I'd post this at pricescope.com for some true diamond experts to chime in.

Thanks:)

I posted on Pricescope last night then spent hours reading! Such a wealth of information can be found.
We're having the radiant brought in but because the stones are from two different jewelers we cannot do a side by side comparison.
It 'looks' like the 2.18 won't face up much larger than the POH, am I correct in that?
Thanks again:)

i have a very square radiant diamond. mine is a 1.5 carat, G in color and the clarity spec escapes me at the moment.

when i was looking at e-rings with my DF, the radiant outshined the princess IMHO (in terms of fire/sparkle). it doesn't face up as well as rounds per say. so make sure you are comfortable with that aspect.

you need to make sure to look at them before you buy. if you cannot, then make sure they are returnable.

i'd take the radiant! especially with the clarity and color being better than the other stone. :)

Good call on posting on Pricescope.

I think you need to see certain cuts in person, like radiants or antique stones, or have really nice photos/video to make a decision. You can't really go by numbers alone with those stones, IMO.

Thanks everyone! I was able to do side by side comparison of the POH and a square cut radiant with the same color and clarity of the stone that was to be brought in.
The radiant was very pretty but like some replies on both this forum and Pricescope suggested, the two stones had very different appearances.
We preffered the POH and my wonderful boyfriend has gotten the ball rolling to have the mount started:)
I will post pics in the engagement ring section when we get the ring..I just love that thread;)
Thanks for taking the time to offer your thoughts:)

That's awesome, so glad you had one that spoke to you. Can't wait to see it! Congrats!

Well..I can't stop staring at the pictures my BF took while we were deciding so I hope it's not bad luck to post an image of the stone:yahoo:

It's just 'placed' in a setting so I could look at it on my finger, it may just be an I SI1 but I love it and am so thrilled that my boyfriend is excited about it as well.

So here it is!
