Square Cut versus Baguette Diamonds

Anyone know the difference between the two. DH bought made me a custom anniversary band for Mother's Day from his mom's old engagement but we cannot tell the difference. He claims it is baguette but it sure looks like square cut to me. Which is better and more classic?

By definition, a baguette cut is thin and rectangular. A square cut is, well - square.

Another question, my baguette has steps on the back. Would that make it step cut? I thought baguette is flat on both sides.

I thought baguettes were little emerald cuts? So yes they would be step cuts? I love them.
