I do it before bed. I let it dry about 5 before getting dressed, then I usually put on something dark just in case. It takes <5 minutes to apply.
As far as the orange thing, different products work better on different skin tones, so the best thing is to try various products unti you find the right color. GlowFusion has great color, but it's very expensive and difficult to apply because of the pump bottle. I wouldn't recommend it for first timers.
The other thing is many sprays come in light, med, dark shades. If you're pale, don't use the dark shade. It WILL turn you orange. Try a paler shade and build the color gradually; it will look much better.
