Something comparable to the Madison Minetta? And another question.

I bought myself a black Minetta a couple weeks ago. I am so in love with that bag! Anyway, my mom saw it and she really liked it, said she was jealous. So I'm thinking about getting her one for Mother's Day, but I don't want to get her the exact same one I have. So I was thinking I could either get her the Minetta in brown, or I could get her something comparable to it. Any suggestions? I'd like to not go too much above $200.

Also, my mom is broke (has a condo she can't afford) and struggles to pay bills and buy groceries and gas. She leans on me and my brother a lot to make up the difference. So I wonder if it would be better to just stick with getting her some gift cards to the grocery store and gas station than to buy her a luxury item that she would no doubt enjoy but it wouldn't really help her that much? What would you do?

Thanks.

Can you do both? Give her gift cards to the grocery store and gas station and then get her a smaller luxury gift? I don't know your mom but practical gifts aren't as much fun to receive as something unexpected. And if it were me, I might feel that gift certificates for everyday items might make me feel a bit like a failure for not being able to afford these things myself.

Maybe you could get her a bag at the outlet. Try to figure out what it is about the Minetta that she likes. Is it the shape or the size or the leather or the sections or that you can wear it crossbody or something else?

Good suggestion whateve, maybe a less expensive Coach item, with the gift cars she can use inside? I think done of the recent Avery hobos at the outlet might function similarly in size to the Minetta. But i don't remember if they have a long strap.

I like it! A great MFF bag as a gift card holder would be awesome! I think she'd be tickled to have such a special bag. I'm sure you can find something, if you're lucky maybe something great in clearance to help with costs. It's such a treat to be able to have something pretty.

Maybe a Mini Tanner or other crossbody from the outlet? You could also wait and see whether or not the Minettas get deleted next month, either the style altogether or just the spring colors.

Perfect suggestion. I agree that you could also try mini tanner as it is the same size and has the long strap. It's not from the Madison line but it's very cute. If you can't find one at outlet or FOS try eBay. If it's the leather and not the size try Madison Kelsey (you can find this reduced) or convertible Hippie. You may be able to find some Sadie's at a bargain too.

I think what she likes about the Minetta is the leather and that it has a flat bottom. She likes bags that can stand up on their own. And she seems to like larger bags over smaller bags. She seems to carry a lot of totes and satchels rather than say a crossbody or a clutch. And let's stick to something not so heavy - like my Legacy Turnlock Tote, much too heavy. Also thinking pebbled leather rather than saffiano. Not sure how she feels about saffiano.

The mini-tanner is a good option I think, I'll keep that in mind. The Preston might be a good option too, although not sure how she'll feel about the handles that don't fold down.

Keep the ideas (and sales tips!) coming! Thanks!

So I got her the Minetta in brown at the outlet today. Awesome deal. The only problem is it has a tiny flaw at the bottom that I'm hoping to be able to fix. Any suggestions?

I also got her this wallet. They don't match each other, but they don't have to.
