I have a Tiffany engagement ring, which is 3 years old. I haven’t worn it in a very long time (only wear my wedding band now) because it no longer fits me, and I haven’t taken it to resize. I don’t see the incentive of resizing it knowing that I eventually want to “upgrade” my engagement ring.

Questions:

1. Tiffany has a program that allows you to “upgrade” your engagement ring, given that you had purchased your original engagement ring within the last 5 years, and the new engagement ring that you’ll purchase is at least twice of the original cost, correct? How does Tiffany assess its value? Do you get the original price that you purchased for to go towards your new ring? Or, does the original ring depreciate?

2. My original engagement ring is in Tiffany setting with a very small centre stone, VVS1. I want to upgrade it to 1 carat. How much does 1 carat, VS2 Tiffany setting cost?

3. Or, should I keep my original engagement ring, and upgrade my engagement ring elsewhere that’s more affordable? If so, where would you recommend for buying a more affordable, good quality engagement ring?

Correct. You have to upgrade/purchase another E-ring with its price at least double the price of your original E-ring.

Depends on the color D,E, F, G, H...etc, the price varies a lot. Give Tiffany boutique a visit you shall get an answer, as it is not easier to get a quote via phone call or online chat without seeing the diamond itself.

You need to purchase a new ring for at least twice the price of your original ring. They will then credit you the price of the original ring, not including taxes, and I believe there is also a small fee ($200-500, can’t remember exactly).

In addition to what all the PPs said, Tiffany no longer limits the upgrade to be within 5 years--you now have an unlimited amount of time to upgrade. So if you aren't ready to upgrade yet, you can always upgrade later!

That’s great to hear. Mine is about 8 years old and I want to upgrade at 10 years.

I heard that upgrade policy is only for US customers though not global. Do you know if this is true?

I am disappointed to find out the upgrade policy is only available to US customers. That’s what they say on their website :(.

I would resize it and wear it. The cost is minimal, if they charge you at all. My resizing of my diamond ring was free, but they charged to resize my wedding band.

Wanting to upgrade in the future is very different than ready to upgrade now. Life changes and priorities do too.

Resize that lovely ring and wear it and let it sparkle!

I keep getting different answers from different SAs. I did resize my wedding band, which I paid. One SA said they charge for resizing of engagement ring. The other SA said that they don’t charge resizing of engagement ring, only the wedding band.

When my husband bought my engagement ring from Tiffany, the first resizing came free. This was nearly 3 years ago, so I’m not sure if the policy has changed. I believe that any subsequent resizing of the engagement ring would incur a resizing fee. For our wedding bands, we luckily found bands in our exact sizes at Tiffany so we didn’t need to resize.

Yes, the first resizing is always free, right after you buy the engagement ring. 3 years had gone by, and I gained quite a bit of weight during pregnancy. Now postpartum, still not back to my original weight (which I am fine, not doing anything in particular to lose weight). Since weight gain, I did resize my wedding, which we paid for it. Haven’t resized the engagement ring though.
