Hi all! I am wondering if anyone has received the offer for a smooth Barenia B25, B30 or B35 anytime recently, and if so, at what boutique? I know they are push items, so I’m just wondering if I need to shop elsewhere besides my home store (SF) where I have been asking for anything in smooth Barenia (ideally a B of course) for multiple years. I’ve shopped with my same SA for 4yrs now - I’ve only ever received one offer from her (which was a men’s HAC which was nice, but she knew I would never buy it) and though I am not as big of a spender as others, I am not a meager spender either. I am going to Hawaii next week and wondering if I should consider going on an inter-island day trip to Honolulu, or perhaps late this fall visit Vegas? I’m basically wondering if there are other stores perhaps more likely to receive smooth Barenia items where I should build a relationship?

As you mentioned, Barenia is available for Push offers only, so that already drastically limits its availability. Bigger/busier stores generally receive more Podium stock, but this is not always the case for Push offers. I think it’s important to remember this, because it is very possible that your SA doesn’t even know what Push offers will be coming into the store.

Frankly, I think you would have a much higher chance of receiving a Barenia bag by sticking with your SA. Unless you want to start over with a new SA, it is not worth souring your current SA relationship. In my experience, long term loyalty usually pays off. :flowers:

It’s a rare leather with a rare unpredictable method of store delivery (push offer). Thus it is obvious that should one arrive, it will go to a long standing client with a good relationship who has been asking for it. A walk in, new client, in a tourist location sounds about as unlikely as possible.

Also I think it’s important to stay keyed into the offers thread. Hermes seems to produce bags in batches. If you aren’t seeing a bunch of reports of new offers in a certain spec, it’s likely that H just isn’t actively producing it/many and so no matter which store you shop at, your chances are equally zero. This is the current case for smooth barenia, imo. They just aren’t being produced. (Box is having its moment right now.) So it’s not you nor your relationship nor your store…they just kind of don’t exist right now.

Other than sticking with your SA as others have recommended, I think your second best option would be to go to the FSH store. Explaining your love of smooth barenia and heritage leathers with the right SA at FSH might very well lead to a scheduled appointment. Most people do not come to FSH asking for what you are asking, and I am sure the right SA will appreciate your genuine love for Barenia and the history of the house. FSH has the largest stock of heritage leather bags, but even then, the stock remains quite limited. Smooth barenia has been in production lately, but I have only seen it on a Kelly 25 sellier. It seems the current policy is to produce more bags in heritage leathers but mostly in sellier and smaller sizes. A Birkin especially in a larger size will be near impossible in my opinion, but Hermes is full of surprises, so who knows.

When I was in Paris last month I was told H had very limited production of smooth barenia bags nowadays because they cannot find skins with the right quality. She said BF is more available. More should be considered in air quotes. Resellers in this case might be more predictable.

As with all things H though, you never know. H had stopped producing Barenia birkins for eons and my DH asked my SA to get me one for a birthday.... and crazy story it actually showed up. I don't remember what year or how old I was but it was definitely pre-Covid. Lovely lovely association and memory for me though!

This is pretty much the situation. There is more of a focus on Box, and fewer bags in Barenia (a LOT fewer) for several reasons. Wish I had better news for the OP.
Still always worth continuing to ask, and Barenia always comes back.
There's also resale, and Barenia is a leather that improves with age :flowers:

ETA: While I would always focus on one's home store, for this, Paris is a very good option. You can have a two-pronged strategy :)

As a lover of Box, I'm glad to see it having a moment (or on the verge of one, I guess). But Barenia looks gorgeous, too, so hopefully, it has a comeback!

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies here! I appreciate some context that I’m not missing out by not shopping elsewhere. Unfortunately, I don’t have Paris in the travel plans, but you never know! For now I’ll stick with my SA (and pre loved) and hope for the best!

Smooth Barenia is very very hard to get; Barenia Faubourg not so much. When I purchased my smooth Barenia K a few years ago I was told that it was the first one the store had seen in years. Later I asked for Barenia Faubourg and was offered one in 3 months. If you want smooth barenia make sure your SA knows.
