Smelly Rory?!

So I recently purchased a pre-loved Pebble leather Rory in Graphite/berry and love her dearly. The only thing is, well, she smells. It's a chemical like stench that's not over-powering but is annoying.( Fortunately, nowhere near as bad as the teen-ager's feet) Is there any way to de-funk this thing or am I destined to a smelly bag I don't want to part with? Thanks.

I have a thread not too far back about getting smells out of a bag. Do a quick search under my name. I mentioned much of what I tried. In the end there is still some of the smell but it is better. I think I need to just start using it and allow it to air out some. Out of all of the things I mentioned in the thread that I tried I think febreze made the most difference.

Is the smell coming from the inside when you open the bag? If so I wonder if spraying it with febreze would help? Or putting a dryer sheet in it?

It's definitely coming from the leather itself. I'll admit I sniffed the bag inside and out ( hubby still thinks I'm nuts) and pinpointed the odor. :(
The inside smells perfume-like so I'm thinking the seller had a similar issue with it.

Is it safe to use Febreeze on the leather part? I'll take a look at your post. Thanks. :)

For the leather part you could follow the dryer sheets, baking soda, or activated charcoal suggestions in the thread. Put the handbag and one of those options in sealed bag. Airing it outside might also help. I didn't get to do that one yet due to weather issues.

The best thing I ever did to get a smell out of a bag was put it in a astic tote with the lid off on my back deck for a couple hours over the period of three days and with a lil sunshine and air she was good as new :)

I had a problem with that and a Linday I bought from FOS awhile back. It was this sort of plasticky smell? I never fully got rid of the smell. I'd try some things, it would seem to work for a while, then the smell would come back. It was like it was off-gassing whatever chemicals used to treat the leather. I ended up selling the bag (with full stinkiness disclosure). I hope you have better luck than I did!

I'll give the baking soda, charcoal treatment a shot. Sadly, the weather here is too icky for some outdoor airing out. :(. I'm definitely keeping her stink be damned, lol. Thank you all for your advice. I'll let you know how I make out. :)

I know -- it sucks when you get a smelly bag. This is my second. The first I was able to "dunk" which was kind of fun--I got to practice some rehabbing. The current smelly one isn't one I am willing to get wet. I tried so many things, and there is still some smell, but I just got tired of trying. I really do want to air it out one day, but not until the weather cooperates.
