Skyfall

Let's Go For a Swim With First Official 'Skyfall' Picture
Apparently, Bond's back to bathing suits

The twenty-third James Bond film (and the third starring Daniel Craig as the world's smoothest spy) has had a long and difficult journey to the screen. Plagued by MGM's financial problems (particularly its bankruptcy), production on the film was suspended in 2010, and there was consistent concern that the film would never make it to screen, with a further fear that James Bond was dead.

Please, like that would actually happen! While the film, titled "Skyfall," was in limbo for awhile, there's no way the world would let Bond go, and the fact that director Sam Mendes remained consistently attached to the film (even as a consultant at some points) only gave credence to the film's inevitability. Mendes himself helped round up an all-star crew, including the addition of screenwriter John Logan (who will be credited alongside Peter Morgan, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade), cinematographer Roger Deakins, and composer Thomas Newman. But for all that buzzy star power, we still know very little about the plot of "Skyfall," and today's first official image isn't helping.

What we do know is that the film will reportedly be a standalone Bond flick, returning to the franchise's classic style. The previous two Craig-starring Bond films, "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace," had linked stories (particularly when it came to Bond's emotional state). The film's first official image only tells us that film will, at some point, feature Daniel Craig in swim trunks (cue flashbacks to Craig's infamous "Casino Royale" swim trunk shots). Maybe it's not so standalone after all! (I kid.)

Director Mendes is currently shooting "Skyfall," with a cast rounded out by Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Albert Finney, Ola Rapace, Ben Whishaw, Berenice Malohe and Naomie Harris. The film open in Europe on October 26, with a U.S. release hitting our shores on November 9. Are you excited for a new Bond film?
