Pirates (and pirate stuff) started getting really popular after the first Pirates of the Caribbean came out. Everyone tries to make money off the idea now and it probably is geared towards a younger crowd.
Personally, I love pirates for other reasons and I bought mine as soon as I saw they had a skull charm.
That reminds me of a question a friend asked me once "Which are cooler, pirates or Ninjas and why?". Pirates all the way! Yarr..

Oh, if anyone was wondering, the ps in my member name is for Pirate Syndicate. It is a nerdy reference from an online video game (yes, very nerdy).
