I have a Bronze City -- w/ silver hardware of course -- and absolutely love it! I had worried a bit about how the silver would contrast with the bronze, but upon getting the bag and seeing it in IRL I fell in love with it. The contrast of the silver on bronze (a very dark bronze) is stunning....I think most silver on bronze probably wouldn't work, but the particular shade of metallic bronze that Balenciaga used was right-on. It makes the bag very classy...definitely not cheap-looking in any way. IMO the brass hardware works best with the non-metallic leathers, but the metallic bronze is much better off with the silver hardware.

I tell you what, I know your talking about balenciagas, but I feel the same way about the chloe paddington, I can't get my head around the silver zips and bronze padlock combo so bought one with a silver padlock.... I think the cream one looks ok, shame they don't do more colours with the silver 
I prefer the cooler colours, blues, greens with the silver and the hotter colours and browns with the brass, except red, it looks great with either. I also *love* the silver hardware on the black, it was why I put off buying a black Twiggy for so long, all that was available was the brass. Not loving it. Thankfully fiatflux solved that for me!

They both can be lovely I think. FYI the new padded b-bag (it looks like a cross between a Chanel quilted and a Balenciaga bag) has silver-toned hardware.
For me personally though the silver doesn't really work. This is one of my main issues with my Chloe Edith as well. I wear all 18k gold jewelry, it just looks better with my skintone, and I feel like silver hardware on a bag looks funny with everything else that i've usually got going on.
My FAVORITE b-bag is my beloved flat brass classique. I love how the hardware melts into the bag, doesn't stand out at all. I also love the current seasons neutral darker toned hardware. One of the things I was really worried about is that the hardware on b-bags would change because I really like them the way they are now.
Oh well, I guess to each her own!
