okay, i know that many ppl upgrade their ering and even their wband. and i know that some ppl trade in their ering for a bigger one or just keep the original one and buy a whole new one. but um, can you trade in your wband for a bigger one? i didn't read anything here so far about anyone doing that. i have a 5 diamond band (.20's i think, not 100% sure), but i was thinking about getting an eternity band (same size diamonds are fine). but if i do, i don't really need the 5 diamond band anymore so i was wondering if i can trade that in?

I don't think that is a silly question. I think it depends on where you live and the relationship you have with *your* jeweler. I have a friend who buys the *newest* pieces and when they no longer appeal to her she goes back and trades them in. But then, this is done in NYC which is a whole different game. The only way you will know is to go to the jeweler you want to deal with and see what they say. Most places will tell you that they will only give you what the stones are worth.(they tell you they will just melt down the gold - not resell the ring itself.)

Not a silly question at all. Usually you can only trade-in a diamond not the setting or a wedding band. You can however offer up you wedding band as consignment to your jeweler and they can get it sold for you and then give you your portion.

thanks shanam & curlybaby! so i can probably, not trade-in per se, but give them the diamonds on my current band and have them add more to make an eternity band. that should be feasible, right?

This is not a silly question at all. First I would go to the jeweler that you bought the wedding band from and see what there upgrade policy is. Sometimes they buy back what you paid for it and give you that in credit to a new purchase.

You mean have the jeweler use your diamonds in a new setting while adding more diamonds? Sure, that can be done.

actually, after reading some threads on this forum, many said that an eternity band made be uncomfortable to wear and that ppl don't really see the underside of the band anyway. i guess i'm looking to change my wedding band bc i don't like the way the diamonds are set, so i thought of getting an eternity. the 5 diamonds kind of sit straight across rather than curved. i'll take a pic of my ring so you can see what i mean. i want my ring to look more like this:

not sure if it's worth it to have it changed though. i just think my wband together w/ my ering doesn't look quite right. btw, the wband is already an upgrade. my first one was a thin eternity channel band.

I just had that done, I had a 1k diamond, they took it out of the setting. I had a custom ring designed using the diamond as the center stone with 2 small diamonds on each side then a blue saphire stone below that on one side and a purple saphire on the other side ( my kids birth stones )
Came out beautiful

ITA with a lot of other posters, this is not a silly question. Since it's not talked about much, I'd like to know more info and what people thing about having a wedding band upgrade too. OP thanks for bringing it up
