Common for Persians and cats, in general too. One of the cats we had while I was a kid laid on her back all the time. It's comfortable for many of them and of course, it's a sign of how relaxed and non-threatened a cat feels when it lays in a very submissive position like that.

I worked with a persian this week actually... not nearly as sweet or cute as Winston though.
