I am having a hard time visualizing a nice young-ish cocktail ring with a large pearl. I like bling, so please prove me wrong and show me something stunning!

I honestly don't know the measurement here offhand. I'm guessing about 9-10mm by looking at it. It's in white gold with diamond "bows".

I have been contemplating getting a pearl ring but I worry about them looking old. Both of yours are very modern but in different ways. I would love to see some very the top styles if anyone has any. I really like art deco styles, but don't know where to start. Are there any good sites that specialize in pearls.

Art deco will definitely look "old", and to be honest if it is really from the 20's-30's it will have some kind of damage on the surface. Better try to find the pearl alone from a pearl dealer and have it set at a local jeweler, and you can show him the kind of design you want.

Thanks for your input Lily25. Actually I already have the loose pearls and I need ideas to take to my jeweller. I wanted something more elaborate/cocktail, fun, a bit over the top.....it is hard with pearls. They seem so hard to wear. I just checked out your blog and you wear yours beautifully!

Google your heart out, and search auctions (Cristie's has a few great pieces, I always check these out!) to find art deco designs, print the ones you like best and take your pearls to the jeweler!

I do not own a big solitaire pearl ring, only small pearls on the pearl items i own. I am not very careful when I wear rings, so how durable are they, will they be damaged easily? And will the scratches be very visible when looking at the ring? TIA

It’s not the right jewelry for house cleaning, since many household cleaners contain ammonia. Do not wear pearls in a swimming pool or hot tub that contains chlorine.

Squeeze a small amount of glue onto a piece of paper. dip the back end of the post in the glue and reinsert into the pearl. Let the earring set up for 1-2 hours before wearing again. [/FONT]

Use a soft cloth or a very soft brush to clean the knots in the string. After washing and rinsing, lay the pearls flat in a damp dish towel to dry. (Do not hang wet pearls - the string will stretch.)
