Shoulder strap on hand-held Speedy 35?

Good afternoon fellow LV lovers,

I ordered a preloved LE Speedy 35 today and if all goes well, I should receive it in a few weeks (yay, reveal time?! :P) The LE bag was basically almost exclusively made in the larger 35 size so I didn't want to pass up on my dream design because of 5 mesely centimeters haha. I already tried on a standard Speedy 35 in store yesterday and saw that it didn't look awkwardly big on my 5 foot 1 short body so I am o.k. with the size.

However, I usually carry backpacks or crossbody bags. For this bag, I would totally get used to carrying it hand-held. Still, I was wondering if attatching a shoulder strap to it may be an emergency solution? on days where i just cant be bothered to torture my arm :P

Or does a shoulder strap on a hand-held Speedy 35 look too awkward? What do you think? Would it harm the canvas in any way?

Thanks for any input you may offer
have a nice day xxxx

I've been doing it for years with my speedy 35 (before they made the bandoulière version). However one thing to note is that the metal clips of the strap will damage the rings on the speedy over time.

In addition, if you carry heavy items in your bag, there is an increased chance of ripping the canvas due to the stress placed on the canvas near the handles.

I only carry sunnies, a wallet and an umbrella and I'm not sure if I'd want to test putting more in the bag while using a cross body strap.

Thanks for your sharing your experience! I definitely won't put too much weight inside- thanks for the warning!

I would suggest using a wider strap . I have a classic speedy 30 and use the strap from my keepall 55. Wider straps tend to distribute the weight a little better. I haven't had any issues and only use it when needed. Also, don't load the bag with excess weight due to the canvas possibly tearing.

Thanks for the tip! I prefer wider straps in general anyway so that's definitely something I am going to consider

i have the speedy b 30 and love love love having a strap. i don't have experience attaching a strap to a classic, but i found a couple of other threads regarding this with some pictures. i think it works, but i would also be cautious about the weight:

I use a strap from time to time with my 30. No issues, and makes it nice for a handsfree option. I don't think it looks weird at all. Go for it!

I would carry it as a handheld bag with no strap, personally I would find it more comfortable

Thanks for the advice  - it really eased my mind that you used the word "comfortable" since that's the only thing I am nervous about (hand-held being less comfy) :P
