Fashionphile has offered me a price on my watch that's about 3/4 what I paid for it over ten years ago. (about half what they sold the same watch for recently - a much better offer than I got from two local dealers)

Reasons to sell - I don't really like wearing an automatic watch all day every day with my current lifestyle.
I find the dial hard to read due to the color.

Reasons not to sell - I don't really need the money and wouldn't purchase another comparable watch.
Prices may continue to go up on preowned.
I won't get another Rolex and it's a nice watch.

currently I'm wearing a citizen eco drive watch which isn't comparable in quality but doesn't need service and is easy to read.

It’s like suggesting someone sell or not selling his house, haha. But anyway, this style I would sell it, because it’s not classic Rolex style to me if to keep a Rolex.

I'd say sell it because:
I find the dial hard to read due to the color.
There's no point in a watch if you can't read the dial. You have a functioning watch that you use and is readable, so this one just sits unloved. Let someone else get some use out of it.

I always tell myself that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Since you're not selling it because you need funds, this is a pretty good deal, recouping three quarters of what you originally paid. That money can be put towards something you'd enjoy more right now.

I won't get another Rolex and it's a nice watch.
You already owned it, so it's not like you're missing out in any way. You're ahead of the game in knowing that it's not for you and your lifestyle. I wish that everyone had that kind of clarity so that they would surround themselves by the things they love, rather than the (very nice) things that don't really speak to them.

Fashionphile has a store about 40 minutes from me. I may make an appointment and go up there. The offer has expired and someone here said they often quote higher in person.

@sdkitty, you might want to send a quote request and photos to DavidSW at [email protected]. DavidSW is a very reputable dealer of pre-owned Rolex. I found him years ago on the Rolex Forum where he is very well respected. There are lots of threads there. He'll likely get back to you fairly quickly and you'll have another quote to compare to FP. Let him know if you have the original box, papers, authenticity card, etc. You may still decide to sell to FP for ease and safety of being able to deliver the watch to them, as opposed to shipping to David in Florida, but it might be nice to have another quote.

Also, my understanding is that Rolex will swap out a dial for another color as long as the color is one that was originally available for that particular watch model. So, you might be able to change it to white, or some other color that is easier for you to read. Just a thought. Of course, I'm sure Rolex would charge for that, and you might not want to sink more money into a watch that you are already on the verge of selling.

I think changing the dial is a great idea and would really open up the watch for you.

Rolex's are not going to go down in value and the investment in a more popular dial will probably up its value in the long run.

Rolex might be willing as you are having trouble reading it.
