Hi all, my go-to, care-free bag for the school run, going to parks/days out, etc, is my black Gucci Marmont camera bag. I have had it for nearly two years but I feel it is looking dated. Gucci is extremely popular in my area as it’s so affordable compared to other designers, and I’m starting to feel the GGs look a bit tacky now and overdone - no offence intended to people who love it, as the bag does still look great on others depending on how it’s styled. I do like the bag but I think I would prefer something more classic that will not date, however I’ve no idea what I’d replace it with that wasn’t expensive, as I love Chanel. Anyway, I listed the bag on a site and wasn’t expecting much interest but someone has offered me a good price for it. However, now that it actually comes to selling it I’m not sure if I should or not, as I have nothing to replace it with and my husband thinks it’s a good care-free bag. However, perhaps now is the best time to sell while there is still some interest. My other bags are Chanel. What should I do? TIA.

I would say No . If you are having any doubts don’t do it . You will regret it later . Especially if you still use it or grab for it in your rotation of bags . Also if you have nothing to replace it with in mind that is also a red flag . I wish you good luck on your decision. Xoxo

I don't think so.

Personally, I think the idea of anything being here today and gone tomorrow is outdated. I think you will know when this type of bag is truly looking a bit out of step.

Bag prices are relative, but I would think of this leather bag as good value for money and not 'cheap'. We are so lucky that Gucci makes leather bags at a range of prices. Chanel are more expensive for similar bags, but are they better made??????......

There are 'affordable' bags from lots of designers including LV, it's a good idea to carry ones that don't make you cringe every time someone comes near you with a wet umbrella or a shopping cart.

I love the Marmont Camera style (more than the Flap). I was 'this' close to getting a black/white one with pale pink lining a few years ago but didn't (because of many reasons not really the bag itself). Had I bought it I would most def be still loving it - as I am my Soho Disco.

Same as you — I own a lot of Chanel and I use my camera bag for the same exact purpose! It’s in such good shape even though I don’t baby it and I love that it holds a surprising amount and I don’t have to worry about it being around my young kids.

I know a lot of the “influencers” are over the marmont and I’ve considered letting it go but I still find the camera bag really beautiful and well made. I say hang on to it!!

You are getting tired of your bag, whatever are the reasons (seems like you are eyeing towards a Chanel you have been wanting for long).
I would sell it now, for you are getting a good price as long as it is fashionable.
I guess you will use that money to fund your Chanel, which you will end up buying anyway (don't buy anything more affordable, you won't forget the Chanel). By selling now, you will get more money and might purchase your next bag before the next price increase.
PS: I don't like Marmont, nor camera bags, nor Chanel, I am pretty neutral ^^

Thanks ladies for all your opinions. I was in the same position with my Givenchy Antigona. I listed it on ebay when it was still quite popular and had some interest shown in it, but I wasn’t sure I really wanted to sell so I ended up removing the listing. Two years later I am still trying to sell the bag and there has been little, if any, interest in it all. I have had to lower the price a lot. I wish I had sold it two years ago for the good price I was offered at the time as it’s so big and bulky for me now. I guess I am just worried I will miss the boat again with selling this Gucci bag, but as others have pointed out to me, it’s probably not to wise to sell it if I don’t have a similar bag to replace it with.

If you find something that you will replace it with, it will make your decision easier. I think right now not knowing what you will replace it with is what has you conflicted. Hopefully you can find what you’ll replace it with and that will make your decision to sell or not easier.

Agree 100%. I would love to replace it with a Chanel camera bag but I also have a light coloured Chanel bag on my wishlist for summer so I don’t have the funds just yet. I guess I just want to replace it with something timeless that will never date.

I would sell it now while there is still interest in the bag. If you don‘t want to spend Chanel prices for a timeless bag to replace your Marmont with, maybe check out LV or YSL, I feel like LV Monogram is forever timeless and also YSL does great bags IMO

yes, I agree about the LV. I have a Pochette Metis in monogram which I haven’t used yet.

If you need a throw around everyday bag that you won't baby, then I would keep it. Unless you feel comfortable doing that with a Chanel. I am not sure certain styles will sell for that much. You can buy a marmont camera bag new for those prices as well. I would check first to see what they have been sold for vs listing price. Agreed that it is everywhere and overdone/fakes market has ruined it for me as usual. On the flip side/in defense of your bag, I personally don't want to get rid of my Marmont mini, because fashion is cyclical, I want to keep something iconic from the Alessandro Michele days (in the event he is no longer director and I have something from Tom Ford and Frida days) and I don't feel bad getting it ruined/busted if I use it more often.

I totally see your point about keeping the bag. It was a brilliant throw around bag but in the end I decided to sell it before it depreciates further. I got 700 GBP for it which I think was a really good price for a used one. I do have a slight pang of regret and miss the bag but that’s cos I don’t yet have anything to replace it with. I’m going to put the funds towards another Chanel bag, a more casual style.

Glad to hear the return was still close to what you (hopefully) paid for! That has been my biggest concern with the Marmont line...
