Should I reset my diamond bangle to this?

Hello ladies,

I need your opinion on this. I have a diamond bangle in yellow gold that is a little small/tight on me now . It was a gift from my mom 15 yrs ago. Since my weight gain from kids (can't seem to lose the fat around the wrist), I have only worn it less than 5 times in 5 yrs. I prefer white gold/platinum now. I'm thinking of getting it reset. I want to keep the stones and would need to buy new ones to make it a little bigger. Dh thinks I should just leave it as is and give it to dd when she is older and just get the one I want.

Any woman would happily agree but the practical side of me is saying no. Also I like to wear it with my jade bangle and I think white/platinum doesn't look as nice with the jade.

Here it is next to the jade & by itself.

Here's new one I like. It's more of a bracelet but I will probably have it made as a bangle.

Did you bring to your jeweler? If that is a hinged bangle, you may be able to have it made larger to fit your wrist comfortably. Even if it's not hinged, I would be surprised if the jeweler couldn't make it larger. I would not pay to have the current diamonds reset. I'd keep as is, if can't be made larger, and get what you really want. Good Luck!!

Yes, it is hinged. I haven't taken it to my jeweller yet but I have spoke to him about it over the phone and resizing it wouldnt' be a problem but it wouldn't look as nice as there would be more of the gold showing on the front. I would have to add at least two stones, 4 would be ideal, to have the stones cover half the bangle.

I have to agree w/bagaday that you should probably see if you can have the bangle made larger and keep the diamonds in the original setting since it seems that you do like the bracelet as is. Also since it was passed from your mom & you mention passing down to your daughter one day. :smile1:

I'm a big fan of resetting in general. When my dad died, my mom had the stones from her engagement ring reset into a necklace. This was back in the 80s so by the time the new millennium rolled around, she was ready to have it reset again. She made a beautiful pendant out of it, and ended up putting rubies and diamonds into the engagement ring setting. The items she created from the original engagement ring are more classic pieces rather than trendy.

I think you should either reset the stones (I love the picture you put up of the one you like) or you should listen to DH and save this one for DD. Buy yourself something you love that fits

^ My mom is a big fan of resetting as well. A couple of the stones in that bangle used to belong to my mom's old bangle. She split up the stones and made it into 4 bangles for each of the DILs & myself. Jewellery is her one weakness and she passed that on to me very early on. ;) Both my dad & dh think we are crazy for going ga ga over a clear piece of rock. lol

I agree with Bagaday. I have the exact opposite...tiny wrists. I just had a Quad diamond bangle, with hinge, made smaller. I'm sure yours could be made larger. Be nice to keep it the same...lovely style!

Ah well, if you think your Mom would be very ok & understanding with you resetting, then I say go for it. I do like the second design very much! :smile1:

I was initially going to say don't get it reset as it was a gift from your mother for the sentimental value and then you would be able to give it to your daughter. However, since you said your mother likes to reset jewelery I think it would be ok if it is what you really want to do.
