What do you guys think about this: I've been in contact with a private party for about two years and have met her once. Now she has the birkin that I want. She and I are arranging to meet in Beverly Hills so that I can take the birkin into the Hermes store to have Celene, (apparently a craftswoman), look at it. And if I'm pleased, then I fork over the money. If not, she says no biggie.

Defininitely, the only concern would come from an autenthicity standpoint, and you have covered that. If you really want it, get it!
Sounds exciting. What a better way to get a beautiful bag at less that full price, and knowing its authentic! Keep us up on the good news.
The seller has told me to take the bag into the Hermes store and ask for Celene, because she is an actual craftswoman. She told me that some of the fakes out there are so good, that regular SA's might not even be able to tell them apart. But refer to Jill's post to see the downside of this.
