I read a weird it of info today about Mr.Louboutin

"Despite being known for his celebrity clients, he rarely gives shoes away – offering discounts instead to his high-profile fans. This policy also extends to his personal family, because he feels that giving shoes away as gifts is unimaginative. His single biggest client is Danielle Steel, who is reputed to own over 6,000 pairs and is known to have purchased up 80 pairs at a time when shopping at his stores"

what do you think about giving Louboutins as gifts?
does it matter if its your best friend?
would you give your relatives and not your friends?
do you think shoes should even be given as gifts at all?

should be interesting to read the responses.:smile1:

I don't think giving shoes as a gift is unimaginative. If it's what they love, then go for it!

None of my friends or family are as "shoe mad" as I am, so I wouldn't really think to buy shoes as a gift. ;)
However, I was thinking some of my girlfriends and I should all chip in for a pair of CLs for one of my friends (she is looking for wedding shoes).

I bought a pair of CL sandals for my sister once and she was over the moon. (bargain on ebay, couldn't go past them)

DBF bought me a pair of CLs for my birthday last year.. best gift ever! (strass love flats :hbeat:)

I really think it depends.

I would be totally over the moon if I'd get some CLs or other designers shoes for my birthday or any other holiday.
My BFF, who is also shoe-maniac and dreams about her own CLs would be also very happy to get a pair (I am currently stalking eBay for some bargain for her BD).
Yet my DBF refused to even look in shoe-section of my wishlist cause he finds gifting shoes a bit odd.

For people who are not really into the shoe collecting I think getting pair of shoes would be the weirdest gift ever and on some level I can relate.

i just gave someone shoes for their bday
Louboutin's gift policy does not need to extend to his customers
he might feel it is unimaginative FOR HIM bc he is a shoe designer
it's like being a lawyer, and gifting someone legal advice...

and there are reports he gifted a collection to Blake Lively

I don't think giving someone shoes is unimaginative either, but it depends on the person. I gave my BFF a pair of CL wedges [a great eBay find, brand new, for $95 plus shipping]. She's not a shoe fanatic like I am, but she does appreciate and loves nice things.

I would be horribly put out if anyone bought me a pair as a gift, but I would do my best to get over it. Especially the gift was a pair of black and gold Duvette 120's, size 41;)

I'm guessing he thinks it's unimaginative if he gives them. . . it would be expected.

DH picked a pair out for me in Las Vegas and brought them home and I was very happy!
It was cute picturing him in the boutique and carrying them onto the plane careful not to mess up the CL bag, etc. . .

I have bought shoes for friends and family members.

I think CL shoes are an awesome gift for a recipient who is sure to appreciate them. Most of my fashion interests and big expenditures I have to keep to myself because the people around me don't care or appreciate them. That's why tpf is sooooo awesome!

I think giving shoes is great.

My DH gave me my first pair of designer stiletto's and I was over the moon (several times over!!!)

Firstly it showed he really listens when I talk about things as it arose from a casual comment when I was reading a magazine article.
Secondly, he got the size right - not easy as I didn't wear heels then.
Thirdly I was in awe that he had gone into a Designer shop and bought a pair of women's shoes.

He has regularly got me shoes and dresses etc since then - and he always manages to find something really different but really nice - he is just a way better present buyer than I am

is anyone else surprised that one CL boutique stocked, at one time, 80 *different pairs* of CL's in the same size? I had no idea they had so much stock variety for a specific size, even at their biggest boutiques!
