hi TPF-ers,
im newbie to H, and very delighted to join this forum cuz i could learn and see lots of H bags in assorted colors and leathers.
Its some sort of relaxing remedy for me. :D
I just recently bought a croc kelly in US, and would like to ship it to Singapore.
Anybody have idea, how many % of the tax would be?
and can i claim the tax back if im not Singaporean?
Where can i pay for the tax?
Do I need the CITES?
if i shipped with Fedex, how many days it'll need for the custom clearance once it arrived singapore port to be delivered to my place?
Hope could get some info from tpf-ers

Firstly congratulations on your new bag :yahoo:and welcome to the forum.

How old is your Croc Kelly bag BB? does it pre-date the Washington Convention? CITES was introduced in 1973.

If not, you will need a CITES. if you want to travel extensively or if you intend fully insuring and declaring it for shipment.

The CITES Certificate from Hermès will show a series of Permit number which prove the original of the hide, species, Cites classification etc. Please note the CITES Certificate once issued in your name is only valid for 6 months and will need to be renewed (a fairly easy process). The original CITES is a document of 5 or 6 different coloured pages. The US Customs will keep 3 copies (one to send to DEFRA for their records, one for themselves and another they will forward onto you), the remaining copies are sent with your H bag to Singapore. Singapore customs will then keep a copy and send a copy with your H bag to you.

Depending on where you purchased this bag ie. reseller or boutique route ... the boutique in the US should automatically provide you with a CITES. If the reseller route, you can contact them and ask them to arrange a CITES to be issued in your name.

If on the other hand, you have bought via the reseller route and they do not have a CITES available, it is going to be a bit of palaver to get one. You will need to contact the Cites Management Authority and apply for a CITES yourself, however you will need the original receipt for the bag to attach to your form.

Customs clearance in Singapore will take longer as you are declaring this bag as Crocodile and they will need to check the CITES certificates against the shipment.

Hope this helps

Do note that you'll have to pay GST when the bag reaches Singapore - assuming you declare full value of the bag for it to be properly insured.

You CANNOT claim the GST back if your item is shipped here, since this was not purchased from a local participating retailer.

If the invoice is already on the outside of the package, detailing the cost of the contents, then there should be minimal wait time since Fedex will pay the GST on your behalf first and then collect it from you when they deliver.

Thanks FF and pyrexia!:hugs:

thank you for answering my silly questions.
tpf is the first place that comes to my mind for anything bag related ;)
my bag is stamped L.
so, cites is definitely needed if the bags is declared full value.

is it ok if i didnt declare the full value of the bag? So i can pay less tax.
is it a common practice for tpf-er in singapore?

If you don't declare the full value of the bag, you run the risk of losing a lot if the bag should be lost/damaged in transit. The shipping co will only reimburse you the amount that is declared.

Just a caution - it is considered a crime to under-declare value and if you do get found out (touch wood), it is a hefty fine (a few times of the tax you have to pay, IIRC). Just letting you know so you can make an informed choice :smile1:

Also - if you are buying from a reseller, do check with them if they are willing to declare a lower value. Some will not do it for such a high value bag. If you've bought directly from an H store, they will automatically declare the full value.
