Shipping from US and tax in France/EU?

Hello ladies,

Can someone help me please? I have just purchased a 30cm Gold Birkin from luxuryexchange.com....I had the bag authenticated and all it good on that front, now I have a dilemma....they will be sending the bag to me in France and I just wanted to ask how to go about the tax issue?

Is it safe to declare a reduced value or will this invalidate the insurance? For example if I declare the bag to be $1,000 instead of $10,000, does this mean that if it gets lost etc I will only get $1000 back or can it still be insured for $10,000?

Would I still have to pay tax if we declare the bag as "an old item" but still put the value down as $10,000?

Has anyone had a bag shipped from US to France? Can anyone give me any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Kate

Insurance will only cover the declared amount. If you declare $1000, that will be all that is insured.

Honestly, for an item as costly as a Birkin, I would just declare the entire value. Tax is (IMO) a small percentage of the entire cost of the bag, and since I'm already paying so much for the bag, what's the tax for the peace of mind?

I shipped a Kelly to France via UPS. Duties charged were something like 30% of purchase price. Sale was around $3300 and duty was just over 600 euros. Full value was declared for shipping and insurance.
