Severe Wear and Shiny Silver Hardware — Is This Oxidation? Tarnishing?

About six years ago or so, I purchased a small chevron Le Boy in calfskin with shiny silver hardware. Within the past two years, the hardware, namely that which is on the clasp, has developed rather unsightly discoloration. If not the effect of tarnishing, might it be the result of some other oxidation process?

Granted, it has been used at least once per week for six consecutive years. The integrity of the rest of the bag, sparing the expected scratches and other manifestations of regular use, is rather stellar.

First two images attached here are from when the bag was first purchased (were posted on this site in April of 2017)

The latter three are the bag in its present condition.

I don’t have first hand experience but I am this can replaced at small cost if you enquire with your local boutique.

Should I call ahead to make a consultation appointment? Didn’t realize that Chanel’s repair service was able to replace hardware plates

I think that’s normal appearance from heavy use.

It looks like metal oxidation. I’ve had the same thing happen to one of my other designer bags (Gucci and LV). Chanel can replace it for a fee.

No point calling just take it in because they need to see it. They can do a lot for a small fee but takes a while.
