Service a warranty-voided Cartier watch

I've got a Cartier tank watch from a family member. She bought it from Cartier then subsequently had another jeweler put diamonds on along two sides of the dial. I was hoping to have the battery changed and looked over by Cartier but the lady at the Cartier store told me they won't do anything with the watch because the warranty is voided. Am I really out of luck in terms of having the watch serviced by Cartier ?

Anytime you change anything 'after market' it voids the warranty from the manufacturer. Rolex too is big on this as they have to ensure all the serial numbers are the same in the time piece.

There are many other good companies out there to service your Cartier and change the battery.

If you only need the battery changed and Cartier won't do that for you, take it to a (good) watchmaker.
