Good morning Hermes forum ladies -
I'm usually in the LV forums but have recently been lurking here (that always sounds kinda creepy, doesn't it?) and am learning a lot.
Not exactly new to the Hermes brand ... but never really wanted a Birkin badly, until now.
I am seriously considering a 30cm Birkin in Ebene Togo leather (gold hardware), but am thinking through a few things. Could you all help me out with some of your thoughts?

1. Ebene is a good all season, every season, goes with most everything colour isn't it?
2. Togo leather is a "low maintenance", good for a first leather, no?
3. 30cm is a good beginning size, yes?
4. It looks like ~$8000 is a pretty reasonable price?

I have also been considering the picotin, garden party tote, plume, victoria FT (does this come in different sizes?) ... but if I went into the boutique (Toronto), would they laugh at me if I told them I was in the market for a 30cm Birkin ... maybe black togo with PH? and how long would i have to wait if they didn't laugh?
Even if I do get the Birkin now ... I will definitely get one of these other styles ... just not as soon as I'd originally expected.

I DO really like the ebene colour and think it may be even more versatile than black, and while I have a preference for silver toned hardware, carrying LVs has made me less fussy about this.
In general, the Ebene Togo 30cm Birkin seems like a pretty good buy ... and I do really like how it looks, but ...
Sorry for the long post :shame:- what do you all think?

It really does sound like a great combo!! togo is very low maintenance, and holds its shape very well (compared to the heavy and slouchy clemence). Ebene is a beautiful color and goes well with everything. The size is a personal preference. 30 is a good size, esp since I tend to overstuff my 35 because I have the space! Good luck on your hunt (and NO, I sincerely doubt they will laugh at you at H)!!

^^ thanks for the input! i'm getting quite excited at the thought.
I think the 30 size would be about perfect for me ... 5'3", and I'm not fond of big bags for me.
Anyone else?

Lemma, I am what they say "vertically challenged" at 5'2" and prefer the 30cm. I do however, find that if I am travelling, I will take the 35cm as it simply functions as a tote...so I throw in my magazine, ipod, etc....Ebene is just lovely. Your H boutique will not laugh at you. They get approached all day long about birkins. You never know, you could just walk in and get one!! I have, so it's not completely out of the question!

Excellent choice. S'Mom has one in swift and she loves the color and size. I have several 30's and this is my size of choice in Birkin for everyday use. I think it holds quite a bit.

I am 5 feet, and my first was a 30, togo with GH, but in black. Very close to what you are looking for! 2 years later, and I still love it and one of my staple bags! GO for it!!!

I'm 5'6" and I have a 30 in Gold Clemence. I haven't had any slouching (store it on it's side), so I can't comment on that. I think Ebene is a beautiful color that will definitely go with everything. Good luck!!

Hello, lema,

I have the exact Birkin you're speaking of and it's a great choice! I feel that it's even better than a black Birkin. The ebene togo is a tad darker than the LV brown monogram canvas. I was just comparing these two browns today side by side.

Another shade you might consider is havane. A lighter brown but with the reddish undertones. This color looks fabulous with gold hardware....but, then, so does the ebene.

As for size, I carry my Kelly long wallet and small agenda, LV checkbook, and soft cloth eyeglass case inside mine with some room to spare. And, of course, my LV cles.

thanks for the affirmations!
size-wise, I think I'd be more comfortable with the 30 for everyday ... the 35 (one day) would be ideal for travel - I find that the bigger my bag, the more I put into it, too! Currently I carry my LV Speedy 25 for day to day ... and it still has room to spare. In this case, the 30 might work for me, even for travel?
colour-wise, i think the havana is beautiful, too ... but the ebene may fit in with my wardrobe colour a bit easier ... not so much of the red tones.

isus - i have seen your bag (with the seashells ) and it is BEAUTIFUL!
Thanks for the comparison with the LV brown ... it helps me visualize it.

Is it odd that it's calling so to me ... and I've never seen it IRL?

lemma183, there is no question that it is a lot of money to spend on a handbag. As far as an investment, I don't think you can really look at it that way, unless you are really not going to use it. I say go for it, but buy it to enjoy and use. I'm not saying bring it to a soccer game and leave it in the mud, but don't baby it. They look FANTASTIC when used and loved at the same time!! Can't wait for the reveal!!!

^^ thanks, hermesmonkey. I guess I was thinking of "investment" in terms of value for money spent. ;)
in the past, i've had difficulties using really nice bags for fear of not wanting to wreck them (just taking them out to look at from time to time :shame:), but have decided that it really makes much more sense to use them, and thus enjoy them MORE.
I'm actually getting really excited. In the process of working out the details with the seller, and will definitely share pics when she arrives.

Leema...I think the 30 will be PERFECT for you. I have a 30 in Gold with PHW and I'm 5'10". Don't think it's too small, even for me...more of a handbag size. I don't have a 35 but that size would be good for travel or work. The 30 goes from day to night nicely. Good luck!

^^ thanks, skyqueen! In some ways I can't believe I'm actually doing this, but I've always loved accessories that are timeless. I know this is a bag that I'll be carrying 50 years from now ... if I can still lift it. :s And even if it's too heavy for me, it'll still look perfect.

When I was younger I felt Hermes was for older women...so I wasn't that interested. Now you see young/old, tall/short, fat/thin appreciate these gorgeous bags. You are right...they are timeless! An investment. The bag may not "make" the woman, but it can't hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
