Serial code question on new WOC

I have just ordered a WOC. The email receipt I’ve received suggests to code is 28******. i see this means it is from 2019. Is this right that I would order a bag now and receive a 2019 code? I’m really new to Chanel, I usually buy LV and it would be odd to get such an old date code from them so I‘m curious about this Chanel bag. Also wondering if it means I’m going to receive the old model without the magnetic closure.

Around this time, where alot of the stick has been purchased and stock is low, often times some bags that were in the very very back comes out. Alot of times, these are total gems that got hidden. There's alot if threads this month of people saying the same thing that they got a bag from 2018 or 2019. It happens every January.

If the bag is in perfect condition and you love it, then keep it. 2019 caviar was really nice.
Post pictures so we can see if there's any glaring defects.

I’ve cancelled my order now (hadn’t been sent yet) and will wait until I can buy in person I think, at least I can examine it properly. I just don’t feel comfortable paying 2021 prices for a 2019 bag, even if it is virtually identical.

Chanel works different from LV. The date code isn't as important as the leather quality and batches from different seasons feel different. Getting a current date code doesn't mean it was produced that year anyway, it's not like LV items where it's very specific. I think COVID made a lot of stock end up in the back of stores since they were all closed, that seems like what happened.

I agree. The 2019 caviar was beautiful . That line was the shiny puffy one with the least amount of issues and complaints.
Some of the 30 series bags showed uneven puffiness and quality as if they used two different leather pieces. So quality is more important than date.

Hi! Is your WOC a classic? I have a WOC I'm really interested in purchasing that's from the 2020 collection but the serial number starts with 28 too (other serial numbers of the same item I've seen starts with 30)... however it's the WOC with the giant pearl strap. I've been digging through this forum to find an answer on this and saw that some people say the product might be from a previous batch of manufacturing but I wonder if this applies only to the classic items?
