I have a bag that I have been carrying non-stop for two weeks. I was switching bags last night and noticed that a small screw is missing.

I talked to a rep at the store in Dallas and she told me that it has to be sent off for repairs. I've never had to send a bag off before. I know that this is probably not an unusual practice, but I am a little worried about sending it off.

Does anyone else have experience with this? Any problems?

I hate it when that happens. It has happened to me twice - once with a Chloe bag and then later with a Balenciaga. Due to the time involved I prefer to get someone local to do the repair. Maybe you could do something similar. There may be a specialist leather goods store near you. They might help. That's what I did. It was a week or so before my bag came back, because the leather repair expert was only on the premises once a week. But it was still a lot better than waiting for three months and then finding the repair wasn't great. Luxury brands don't always stand over their products as well as you might think.

It's a Ferragamo. Unfortunately, the screw is right on the front and it matches the rest of the screws on the bag. I cannot think of any other way to get it replaced.

It's a shame about the screw that must be exactly matched, natalie. In that case I would probably take the chance and send it back. I would try to obtain as much reassurance as possible about the quality of repair work, and the time it will take to fix. And then I'd keep in touch by email while the process is ongoing. This is what my husband is currently doing, with his late father's prayer book from the 1930's that is being restored by a bookbinder. I know it isn't a bag, but you can't go wrong with being as careful as possible with these valuable possessions. GOOD LUCK!

i've sent marc jacobs away to be refurbished (screws, studs, and feet) and it came back looking great. MUCH better than taking it to a local place that might not match it. I didn't have to wait as long as i thought i would, either.
i would send it it. it will take time to be repaired, but then it will be done well with the right hardware.

i would definitely rather send it to the experts than have my local tailor or shoe repair do it! i had a bag sent once (though not same place as yours), but point is that it came back just like new because they knew exactly how to fix it.

I recently brought a Gryson bag back to Nordies. They are sending it for repair. I'm not confident that they will be able to match the missing hardware piece. But hopefully if it comes back and I'm not satisfied, they will give me store credit. They say the place they sent them is good but I'm afraid they won't be able to duplicate the size and color of the missing piece. We'll see. SB back in a week or two.

I'm not really familiar with how the Ferragamo company functions. But from what I understand, if they have a customer database (like Louis Vuitton, Coach, Dooney and Bourke Does) they should have info on your bag along with your personal info like name, address, phone#, email etc and they should be able to do repairs on your bag. One of my co-workers recently purchased a Coach purse and had to send it in for repairs because one of the studs/rivits came out. Instead of repairing the bag, Coach sent her a brand new bag (same model) free of charge because she had her bag registered.
