Selling gold, getting the best price - interesting WSJ article

Found this interesting...down by me when people find out you are having a garage sale...if you post a phone number linked to your sale they call ahead. They ask if you have any old gold you are selling. They will drive to your home early and bring a scale with them and purchase all your old gold. It is a big market right now on all levels.

If the economy softens more, that will probably happen more, too. I don't mind when people melt down "average" stuff, but when it's older, more vintage pieces that they just think is out of style for them .... aaargh! I know it's been very common throughout history to do that - remove stones, replace or melt down settings, but with some pieces it's a shame when it happens.

About 2 months ago, I found myself between a rock and a hard place. I needed extra cash, but didn't want to actually go to a pawn shop. I have never done anything like that before. There are a number of good online sites that will buy your gold and you never have to leave your couch. I researched the sites for about a week to a week and a half and found that the best reviews were for a site called GoldPawnShop.com. I sold 3 necklaces to them and believe it or not, I got more then what I paid for. I am much more stable now, but that extra check sure helped me when I was down. Good luck!

Does anyone know if value of gold is still high? I'm debating whether or not to sell a very heavy 18 kt bangle that I have never worn. How does the price of gold today compare to what it was in the last few months? Thanks!

You can google to get the current price. It's gone down...I think around $700 these days.
