I first got into jewelry a few years ago and hit all the top houses: Tiffany, VCA, Cartier, Bvlgari. However, I realized that some of the items I bought don't really go with my casual lifestyle and way of dress (mostly Anthropologie with lots of patterns and colors). For example, I recently sold my Bvlgari Viper bracelet and instead bought a simple TCW 1 ct pave bangle from a trusted local jeweler---with a substantial amount of money to spare. [Some items I don't plan to part with are my VCA Perelee pearls of gold ring and my Tiffany Elsa Peretti collection (rose gold bean earrings and necklace, large silver bean necklace, silver Sevillana ring, jade bean earrings and necklace, silver bone cuff, Color by the Yard ruby earrings and necklace).] I hope I don't regret selling down the line, because of course I did sell at a loss! Anyone gone through a similar phase? And would you care to share what you sold and what you bought in its place?

I love all the pieces you quoted but I understand where you're coming from. Especially, nowadays, everyone has the same pieces (love bracelet, Van Cleef alhambra blah blah blah) and it looks very uniform and uninteresting. I think there are many wonderful unique creations out there made by very skilled artists.

Having said all this, I don't think I can ever part with my designer jewelry.

Hmm, I did have a similar dilemma. I developed a couple of small cysts in my left pointer finger and that left me unable to wear my fine jewelry stack on that finger.
I am a creature of habit and really loved wearing my stack. I wore in almost daily for about 5 years and it made me quite upset that I could not wear it on that finger again.
I can and have worn the stack on my right pointer finger, but that works better in the winter when it is colder and fingers are not as swollen. Granted, maybe it's a good idea to give them a break because they are pretty worn from being worn daily for so long, but still I wasn't too happy about it.

My initial thought was to sell them. But at this point in my life, I dislike selling at a relative large loss, especially for fine jewelry. The depreciation sucks for jewelry that has been worn often so I know that if I sold them, it would be at a pretty big loss.
I also know that with inflation and price increases, if I ever wanted to buy them again, it would be at a much higher price than what I paid for and I would have to be okay with that.

At the moment, I have decided to save them, wear them when I can, and eventually give them away to my friends' and family's children.

What a lovely thought! We're child-fee, but I never thought of passing things along to loved ones' kids. I just thought of all the nice things I could buy with the money I would make from selling;-) And I understand about being a creature of habit! I hope your left finger has recovered or at least doesn't give you much trouble. Thank you for the insight!

We have no children as well. (Just dog parents haha). We have some very close friends who we basically consider family and we're like their children's aunt and uncle at this point.
Oh yea, you could definitely sell and buy what you want. Afterall, they're your jewelry to begin with!

Thank you, my left finger isn't too much of a bother, but the cysts will probably remain unless they're surgically removed and I don't feel it's necessary at this point in time.

Best wishes to whatever you end up deciding on! You do you!

I wear casual and still wear good jewelry and bags. Yes, I am that chick and I don’t care. As far as selling? If something catastrophic happens, I guess I will have something to sell for fast cash. I am an accumulator and I am old enough that some style came and went and came again. So I feel I was wise to keep the stuff.(that is what fits:biggrin:)
I did get rid of my silver jewelry though.
It is entirely up to you. I doubt that you will regret it, it is done. And cash on hand beats jewelry you do not use anytime.
