Arghhhhh I’m so disappointed right now!! Some people may have seen an earlier post I did on a Travertine Cassette that I received from the Italist last week. It had some marks and cracked glazing along the handle, and I was really sad to have to return it as it was their last available.
Fast-forward to this week and after a lot of internal debating I decided to spend several hundred dollars more (but still less than retail) on the last available one at Vitkac, as I’m well aware of the price increase at BV that’s happening this week.
I’ve just opened the new one, and the leather strap is wrinkled most of the way along. To me this is almost worse than the first bag I received, as this is more noticeable overall.
Any feedback on what causes this and whether or not it will get better? Otherwise I’m so gutted that it clearly isn’t meant to be and that this was my last opportunity before the price increase to score this bag, which I had planned to begin using immediately. :frown: 1DE087AC-7DF7-4394-9106-80521FA49075.jpegE14D9EE5-ADCF-40BE-B31C-FC065E14FD4D.jpegView attachment 56446936B9D5C08-ECD1-41FE-97FE-C479845F05B5.png
*EDIT* I’ve just had a proper look at the bag all over and it’s flawless aside from the strap. But the strap really does look and feel wrinkled to me, it’s the first thing I noticed when I pulled it out of the dustbag. All of the Cassettes I’ve tried on in person had perfectly smooth straps.
What does everyone think? Is this something that’s likely to happen down the track anyway? Or would you definitely return even given the imminent price rise?
Have included a couple pics of me wearing it now so you can see how it looks on (happened to be wearing a similar colour dress today, oops).

Since it'll do that with wear anyway, I wouldn't be bothered by that.

However, it really looks like someone took it out for a l o n g 'test drive' before returning, which I'd be disappointed by, and a point you could negotiate with if you literally just opened the box. I'd be asking for a discount.
I feel like maybe it was just stored badly at the department store?! The rest of the bag is so flawless it doesn’t look like it’s been worn at all, the strap is terrible. Unfortunately they are only prepared to offer a 5 percent discount, so I think I may return.
But would love to hear if more people think this is a non-issue and I should not worry about it!! Just the Cassette straps I’ve seen prior (and the one on the first bag I received) do not seem like they’d end up in this state for such a long time, but maybe I’m wrong!

Follow your gut instinct which is to return. This bag will not make you happy.

i would recommend waiting until you can examine one in the store, and not worry about the price increase.

It is not a savings of money or time to have to return

It either looks like long term storage or just what it would eventually look like after long term use.

However, I'm erring on the side of long term storage. I have a couple of bags that I have left sort of sitting there with the strap as is. (which means I did not remove them, or wrap and store them properly) and they have a bit of wrinkling going on here and there. Doesn't really bother me too much.

Yet, I do believe, after quite some time of use, all leather straps kind of turn out that way. I just think that's the nature of things. I also think that the longer the leather strap is, the more likely it will show that wrinkle and stress overtime.

I should go check my BV Roma bag. It is one of my oldest bags. It came with a long leather strap and I just left it in the bag. Never really thought about it because I do not use the strap at all. (Yea, so I just leave it the bag even when I use it, the bag has a ton of space.) Let me check it out when I go back home. I'll update you on what it looks like.

It would be better if you are right, perhaps it was a display model, but whenever I've bought brand new bags the straps are not buckled or fastened yet and usually have protected packaging over everything. I usually spend 20 minutes just sorting though the extra stuff, figuring out what goes where.

Good point! No protective stuff was on the strap whatsoever.

I tend to agree with you. I’ve been trying to save money by buying from these online sites, (the reason being that I think the Cassettes are honestly overpriced). But it’s ultimately the exact style and colour I want, so I’m now thinking that given the new lifetime warranty Bottega are offering on boutique purchases I’m far better off just buying in store.

I just received mine from Nordstroms. It was BADLY scratched on all sides. I could not believe that Nordys would sell such damaged bag.
Argh, sorry that happened - it’s very frustrating, isn’t it?? I don’t understand how these companies think people will be happy accepting badly damaged bags!
